    GBB housing

I've used both styles and TBH I'm not actually sure what i prefer yet. I can see how it can be an issue with terrestrial Ts but I had a B. Hamori juvi In the same one a few years back with no issues. It's not your typical front opening enclosure like an exo Terra it's the spider shop Uk own...

    GBB housing

Mine is exactly the same, it's in quite a shallow deli cup at the minute and it's created a hammock in between a few pieces of cork bark but it's right at the top.

    GBB housing

Yeah perhaps a bit more climbing space, so I'm unsure if 8.5cm for a 3cm sling would class as too much or not? I know it's probably too much for a terrestrial as most people say not more than 2x the legspan and that's closer to 3.

    GBB housing

Hey guys, Been a while since I've been on the forums so I may have missed some stuff. Last time I was doing any research into T's I know some people were debating if GBBs were semi arboreal or would make any use of a taller enclosure. Basically I picked up a GBB sling and it's just moulted...

    Tarantula "night light"???

I've used red lights in the past and they have worked brilliantly. if your T is kept on any sort of shelving you can get the cheap RGB LED strips and stick them above the enclosure. that way you can control them with a remote or even wire in a rocker switch. i used this for my B. Hamorii and it...

New to the hobby and have questions about my Avic. A

Regarding the enclosure pictures are always much better, most people would recommend against handling especially with arboreal tarantulas like Avicularia. they have a tendency to jump without any real idea where they're going to land so there is a big risk of them getting injured. even if you...

    Tarantula Enclosure lighting

I think the best way forward is LED, it gives of no heat and if you get one of the RGB strips you can always put the red light on for nightime viewing. I know some people have done this in the past successfully Tom Moran used it for his M. Balfori communal at one point

    Disturbed moult

Well that's what I was hoping for. I went to bed around 11 on Thursday when I disturbed it and I was expecting it to attempt it again that night. Nothing yet though.

    Disturbed moult

I'm away for the whole weekend now so I've topped up its water dish and hopefully with a few days in peace I'll come back to a freshly moulted T:)

    Disturbed moult

Its not a sling but yeah i know there is no exact timescale on it, I'm hoping within the next few days it will successfully moult.

    Disturbed moult

Hey everyone, So before people start to panic a little I didn't actually flip my spider during a moult or anything daft like that. Basically last night as usual I checked on all my animals before going to sleep. Shining my torch not directly in the enclosure but enough to let me see them...

    Pet shop rant/horror stories

I think the problem With large pet stores lies mainly with employee training. Having the correct knowledge to even know basic care for animals like Cats,Dogs, birds,Fish and then various kinds of Insects and reptiles is not easy. Most people in those stores are probably there just to make money...

    Pet shop rant/horror stories

Yeah I've never came across a chain in Scotland that keeps T's either, a few smaller pet stores I've visited keep them but fortunately their care is pretty good. Glad we don't have massive chains like petsmart.

I'm new and have a few questions.

I would agree with some of the other guys on here, best thing to do is buy a juvie at around 5-6cm dls which is exactly what I done with my B. hamorii. At that stage it has its adult colours and is less fragile than a sling but you still get to watch it moult and grow into an impressive adult...

    Best "Big" Tarantula

Yeah I think I certainly need to keep that in mind. My one and only T at the minute is a juvinile B. Hamorii so even a good sized genic will look huge in comparison. I don't think I've ever actually seen a Big T in person, largest I have seen is an adult G. Rosea at a zoo.

    First T... Curly hair

First of all you should never use a heat mat on its own you must use it with a thermostat, I personally use the microclimate mat stat. What this allows you to do is control the temperature the mat can reach. As others have said you can use it in various ways such as putting it within another...

    First T... Curly hair

I wouldn't really say its unnecessary effort for a negligible gain, I agree in the case the OP doesn't have to worry about heat at all but it can be a cost effective way of heating one/two enclosures rather than using something like a space heater to warm up the whole room.

    First T... Curly hair

Not necessarily true, Heat mats can be deadly if used in the wrong way but if used with a proper thermostat and not stuck to the underside of the enclosure or right next to a burrow they can be great for raising the temperature a little. In this case i would say there is no need to raise the...

    Best "Big" Tarantula

Yeah i know a pokie isn't something to take lightly, like I said I'm not sure if I'll ever want to keep one. Although they are absolutely gorgeous, P. Metallica is one of my favourites.

    Best "Big" Tarantula

Yeah all poeciltheria are stunning but that's something I don't think I'll ever be ready to keep. I think a few aviculara/caribena species will be enough arboreals to keep me happy. I don't fancy having a T that has some of the most potent venom as well as being fast and skittish.
