Probably Heteropoda genus but the coloring sure looks like Holconia, even though I don't think Holconia live there.

    Calisoga longitarsus "False Tarantula"

My friend found one floating in his pool as well, thought it was dead. About half an hour after being taken out of the pool to show me, it sprang back to life. Quite aggressive and fun to watch.

Regarding recent Phoneutria for sale in USA

In general I agree, but remember the member who thought letting a gravid huntsman escape through his makeshift saran wrap lid wasn't his fault? And then proceeded to get Sicarius very soon after? There are new members entering the hobby every day, and not all of them have as much common sense as...

Regarding recent Phoneutria for sale in USA

A large fire is obvious and will be reported by someone and your house will be fine, even if you aren't home. Improper gun use carries stiff penalties. Same with cars. And both of those are registered in your name. Improper knife use in your own home will not bother your neighbor in the...

Regarding recent Phoneutria for sale in USA

You cannot compare the likely hood of being bitten by a widow to the likely hood of being bitten by Phoneutria. Or the danger of being bitten by a huntsman to the danger of being bitten by Phoneutria. They are not even in the same ball park.

usambara yellow and black spider Help!

Sure looks like Palystes hoehneli to me too. Not very dangerous, venom is nothing compared to wandering spiders. Mine never indicated they wanted to bite non-food items. It could have come from the Usambara mountains, if there's any truth to the ID you were given.

Yes, once a black widow has mated once, she can have fertile eggsacks pretty much for life.

Help....Black widow living in my car!!

A long blade of grass works just as well as a bug if you use it correctly. Just imitate a trapped bugs behavior (use correct tension for a prey item, and jerk gently at the web). It takes me less than a minute to capture a black widow if it's hungry and receptive to web vibrations (after they...

    Getting rid of Widows

Huntsman or geckos won't bother a widow in it's web. If it was running across the floor, they'd eat it. Your best bet is manual removal, which isn't too hard. Just lure it out with grass or a bug, or wait for night, then break the web behind it (so it cant get back to it's crevice) with a stick...

    Getting rid of Widows

False widows (Steatoda) are what we usually get in the house. Actual black widows prefer the garage. Did it have an hourglass?
