    Any advise on expo shopping?

Set a budget, make a list, have enclosures ready to go as anything you buy will likely be in a deli cup or vial. Look out for dehydration, but in general as these animals aren't in permanent enclosures don't worry about webbing/tunneling as indications of health. They will also likely be...

    FINALLY getting an A. geniculata!

Congrats! My genic is my favorite of my NW species. I got mine as a 1/4" sling and 5 years later she is now easily 6.5" - the size they put on with each molt is absolutely incredible. I've had them eat up until the day before a molt before as well, feeding response and enthusiasm is unreal. That...

    favorite old world Tarantula species?

My favorite adult is C. darlingi I think, such a great eater and aside from an occasional complete meltdown very well-mannered. I do have a few O. aureotibialis slings that are quickly rising their way through the ranks of my favorites though only time will tell when they reach adulthood

Ways to keep track of tarantulas& other critters

I used the Tarantulas app for a few years and now Exotikeeper, but also have a whiteboard in my T room that I use to write down who is in premolt, who is due for rehouse soon, who was paired on what day, who is gravid etc.

    Unknown epidemic in my collection!

Do you use any sort of oil burner/plug in? A few years ago I had a few sudden strange deaths, never confirmed it but did remove my Glade plug-ins just to be safe and following that didn't have any other issues. Are your Ts in the same room as other animals?

    C. Versicolor not eating should i be worried ?

My versi slings have always been a little skittish at that size about feeding - I usually will leave prekilled pinheads for them and they always eat when I stop watching them.

    𝘊𝘰𝘵𝘻𝘵𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢 sp.

I keep my T room 75 degrees in winter and it gets up to 85 in summer so pretty standard temps. I'll just keep waiting for an older specimen to pop up, it'll happen eventually! :)

    𝘊𝘰𝘵𝘻𝘵𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘢 sp.

I wish I could offer more information but all I've got for you is that my C. sp Puebla is literally the slowest growing sling I have encountered in my 13 years of keeping. That being said it is always running around and never refuses food. Currently 1/2" if I'm being extremely generous and I got...

    Today in the Spider Room?

Picked up a few new babies this week! P. vittata, P. metallica and another little OBT sling. Also pulled a sac from my Neoholothele incei fem, it was my first sac and admittedly I freaked out and pulled it too early because she's been buried for months so now I have eggs in the incubator :zipit...

tarantula 17+ years and going strong

My porteri was my first T. She was a subadult when I bought her 12 years ago. No idea how old she is but I wouldn't be surprised if it was around 20.

    Hairs

When I was newer to the hobby I wore a bandana around my face and wore glasses whenever I had to work with my boehmei. That thing kicks hairs like it's his job. Tape works well to remove them - I've been haired a few times over the years but I've also been a dummy and gone digging in sub that is...

Comment by 'Paiige' in media 'Cyriopagopus sp.'

I believe vonwirthi has orange spinnerets and hers are grey. It was sold to me as paganus but from my understanding paganus is not in the hobby and is a bit of a blanket ID for a variety of WC species of this genus. Also post-molt from what I've seen her abdomen and carapace are both dark...

    LP sling growth rate

Mine grows painfully slowly. I keep my T room pretty warm and feed it as often as it will eat but it is afraid of everything and is pretty unenthusiastic about life.

Help? Is my Ceratogyrus darlingi ok?

Looks stressed. I'd dampen the sub and provide a starter burrow - I do this for all of my fossorial species.

    Mystery box tarantula sling guess

It looks a lot like my kaeng krachan did as a sling but IMO it's a toss up between the Chilobrachys or the balfouri. Only time will tell though

    Who molted today?

Chilobrachys sp. Electric Blue and Monocentropus balfouri

    Pamphobeteus vs Theraphosa

I have a lot of Pamphos and only one Theraphosa but I really adore my stirmi. My Pamphos are mostly slings and juveniles though so that may change...I just love the stirmi's enthusiasm.

At the end of the line...

This is gonna be an unpopular opinion but I have literally zero interest in Brachys. I don't wanna raise those slow growing little pink slings or spend the money on juveniles/adults. They're pretty, yeah, and there are a few species I like a little more than others, but overall just not my thing.

What is a mistake you made as a newbie that you CRINGE to think of now?

Catching grasshoppers from outside to feed to my first T. I was 17 and didn't know any better :cricket:

What species of tarantula should I get as a beginner?

As long as you do your research, there are many species that would be suitable for a new keeper. I'm going to recommend the "typical" ones - T. albopilosum, G. porteri/rosea, G. pulchripes, pretty much any Brachypelma species...but individual temperaments vary a lot so there is always a chance...
