Most of my slings were pretty bland-looking at first. Case in point, my phormictopus sp. green was never green until this last moult when she went from a grey black to a beautiful jet black now interspersed with iridescence green hairs. Her carapace is, now four years later, just starting to...
"However", in the first paragraph of "What activities are prohibited?", note that "These prohibitions apply to live or dead animals or plants, their progeny (seeds in the case of plants), and parts or products derived from them."
Technically speaking, I read that any existing critter held prior...
By coincidence, I picked up an identical container in Downsview last Sunday, too, with the same handwriting on the lid and the same species sling inside ;)...possibly a sac-mate?...no signs of recent or impending moult (ate eagerly the next day). I'm sure yours will be fine. One of my A...
How about down? Perhaps a B. smithi or B. vagans? Tape on a white beard to go along with the red suit, and send it down the chimney Christmas eve? Sort of a Santarantula Claus.
"Kicking hairs". The phrase is ubiquitous. Is there a more "scientific" term for this? If I were to make one up it would be "pedidepilation", but one does not just make these things up. Or do we?
Don't spray, just water dishes in the coco fibre-soil substrate for the 4 month old slings. One P. i makes dirt curtains (coco curtains?), the other just hammocks. Dirt-Curtain-dude has dug into the coco for a hide and will often come out only in ambient light. Hammock-dude does whatever...
Er, they do. The Soo does. Ottawa, Timmins, Pembroke. Orillia, Barrie, Newmarket, Woodstock. I think may "smaller" urban centres that are under Township bylaws don't have established "anti-exotic pet" laws, but all cities I've checked in the last few minutes do.
Every time I Google "<insert...
Most cities in Ontario have bylaws prohibiting Ts....TO, Newmarket, Barrie (gulp!). Hamilton is one of the odd ducks in that it will allow G. rosea, B. smithi and A. avicularia under Bylaw 12-031, Part 10.2.
P irminia and A versicolor slings both molted yesterday..in homes that were next to each other. The P i went to investigate a meal worm I put in Saturday night, but left it hanging around to watch the action .
After the molt the P i stretched out at the top of the web in a fold of the "leaf"...
Woo-hoo! Found my first obvious sling exuvia and a relatively freshly spruced-up albopilosum (one of four that I have). This guy is probably 6th or 7th instar (got them late Sept/16, April 2016 hatch), spent most of the time buried and has nearly doubled in size, making the head-crushed meal...
Thanks. The Dollar Store plastic flip-top "spice" containers are about 5" high and about 1.75 to 2" diameter. The cheap-o store also has clear plastic "spaghetti noodle" storage containers, that are about 3x4"x12" high that I'm planning on re-purposing when the arboreal slings get bigger.
Thanks for your input. I'll try not to disturb them too much. The irminia are much more skittish than the versicolor and I wouldn't want to freak them out with the drill!!
Why do the A. v's need more air flow? Wouldn't they be getting enough ventilation opening up the bottom twice a week...
Simple Arboreal setup for slings. Allows me to flip open the bottom, while the slings are nestled at the top of the home, to add water or a dead snack. Dollar store items: 5" flip top plastic spice bottle, child's plastic cup, synthetic leaves and stick. Cut/glue/drill vent holes and add...
