Exactly. I originally said "cleaning/maintenance" which I am referring to cleaning the water bowl, removing feeder remains, molted exuviae, waste pile, fixing loose decor, and such. I spot clean as needed, but there tends to be a bigger clean needed at times that requires more time and possibly...
Hello lurker and welcome to the arachnid family. You have a great looking T, and dwarfs are great. :woot:
I find cleaning T habitats in a empty bathtub the best option, with the bathroom door closed and a towel under the door (so there are less places it can run to in case of a escape). Your...
@miss moxie Thanks for the write-up. Indeed I agree about breeding and will not be doing that, and she has a forever home. ;)
I have been doing a small water bowl and spraying water around that corner only as necessary. Typically I don't see her around it often, but did see her going for a...
Thanks, seems the username call out worked too. :) I thought perhaps it was just the camera or lighting, but under any lighting when viewing her with my own eyes the setae is always visibly red.
Many thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear a positive ID was quickly established, even if it...
After a year now my unconfirmed PetCo tarantula has been doing great. I had to upgrade her to a larger habitat again, so I got a photo and thought I'd update the post.
She is roughly 2 1/2" DLS and keeping the same coloration now, so I am hoping she can be ID'ed. Originally labelled a Curlyhair...
Thanks for the details and laugh. ;) I thought as much, especially with my tiny baby T's slow growth, but there was no arguing with the guy.
I did try to inform him of the toxicity of the cedar chips, about hides, the damp conditions, and such but as the owner of the store he pulled the typical...
I adopted (rescued) a Rose Hair(?) tarantula on Saturday, my 2nd T, at the encouragement of my wife strangely enough. The T is extremely docile/friendly, likes to sit around and climb a bit, and measures around 4" if her legs are laid flat apart.
The local pet store said she is thought to be 8...
Hello, and thanks :D I saw your name on my T's ID responses as well, and I would have never known lol. Glad to see some other keepers on here too, I am keeping several more arachnids than mantids anymore. ;)
@AlbatrossWarrior Maybe one day I'll try one, but if it did turn out to be one I do know someone who wants a OBT (but her husband says no - so that might be a good excuse for her to get one). :) Nice to see at least I'll be fine no matter the ID on this one though.
@EulersK Alright thanks, I was hoping it was a easy one to ID. I will indeed wait a few molts and re-post then. Interesting to see it can be one of the large 8" bird eaters. No matter what she does turn out to be I'm keeping her. :) That is long as she isn't a OBT orange bitey thing hahaha.
Thanks for the responses, I got it out just a bit ago for some more photos. The weather today is overcast, but is said to be better for colors anyway. Well the one on the green lid the abdomen colors appear too bright, the rest with the T on my hand though appear much more true to life in...
@Toxoderidae Thanks, out of the several photos I took that was the only one that appeared like that. So I'll have to get some shots of it in some natural sunlight to ensure what coloring it does have.
Thanks :D
When I bought the T the cricket was dead. Glad to hear though that way isn't a problem, as I've heard various tales online about PetCo (where I got it). Strange enough I have looked there many times and today was the first time I ever saw any T's. I saw in the ID thread someone...
While out taking my mother-in-law on her bi-weekly doctor appointments today, I spent some of my free time waiting at a nearby pet shop. I came across a few tiny tarantulas, and thought it was a interesting find. Well my mother-in-law gave me a $20 bill as a birthday gift a week early when we...
I picked up this tiny tarantula at a nearby pet store today. It was labelled as a Curlyhair (Brachypelma albopilosum), but the clerks were lost on ID so I'd like to verify if possible. I also have a few other photos, but this is the best showing it's hair.
Some shots of my recently hatched bold jumping spider slings (Phidippus audax). See the photos with the US penny for size reference - they are so small it is hard to get a shot of them holding still.
Hello from Indiana,
I've been a mantid (praying mantis) keeper for a few years now, and have been branching out into other pets slowly. I've kept eleven various species of mantids, bred and raised lots of them, and everything in-between. I'm also actually a administrator/moderator at the...
