I fed mine a honed tomato worm i purchased at petsmart, and the mom and babies were all feeding on it. This was after they left her back. She will prduce food for them from glands on ger back. So, just like a nursing mother she will need more calories than usual.
Over the last, I guess 2 months now I have kept the 1 mom well fed and she still has all the babies. The other we didn't realise had a brood, so we didn't feed as heavily and it looks like we lost half. They do feed the babies. I have seen it. But she should be very hungry after getting them all...
I just posted, but didnt see my coment so at the risk of posting twice... 2 of my H. Spinifer had slings about a month ago. I heep the environment 80 degrees and 85% humidity. If yours behave like mine, then do not separate the mother from the slings she will care for them if you keep her fed.
My H. Spinifer just had slings, 2out of 3 in fact. This is my first time, but it has been a few months and they are doing well. Is yours behave like mine then keep mama well fed and she will care for the slings. There is no need to separate them from the mother. Both mothers are now sharing the...
One thing about behavior, females will pretty much stay in their holes unless disturbed. Males once established, will roam around the tank looking for females.
Now that its been about 5 months I will find them in the same hole sometimes. When I first got them they fought a lot. I did loose my male when I added the most recent female. She was super defensive the first day, and he got stung. In nature I think a female will have babies and start a colony...
Mine are about the size of mice. You want the opening of the hole to be just a bit wider and just a bit taller than your scorp. Once inside it should be big enough for it to get its tail in a striking position, and be able to turn around. When they get hungry they set their claws at the opening...
It seems that at first they tend to fight, but get to know each other after a while. I have seen a video on YouTube where about 60 are kept in a relatively small container. Maybe 2'x3'.
Dig a hole and lay a rock over the top. Make the entrance just big enough to slide 4 fingers into it. I had to make all the holes lil that because the were fighting over the best hole.
