This is a phlogius tarantula, believed to be a crassipes. It is never on the glass so I can’t see her underside to try and determine her gender. It is approx 10cm DLS. Haven’t had a molt since buying it. Is she stocky and thus likely to be female?
We'll call her a she :) she's moved to the side where the sun would normally stream in and her hole (which I'd dug for her a year back) was in the shade.. No she's not hanging by the the water - I've never seen her used the water dish. I spray a corner of the enclosure regularly. We're in spring...
Hi all
So it's warming up here and two weeks ago my T decided to web up a corner of its enclosure and hasn't gone back in his burrow. I keep a towel over the tank now so it's not in direct sun. The T is about 10cm long. I've also started a new hole for it. Any clues as to why it's not going back...
Hi Jason
If you're still looking for info on keeping your T than look at Miss Phantom Fangs on youtube, she used to keep masses of Australian Tarantulas. Also look at the Minibeast Wildlife website as they sell tarantulas and have care sheets that are better than those from pet shops. You can...
Hi all
I have three phlogius tarantulas (2x crassipes kuttabul and 1x black Presley) and I'm confident with their housing. Now I'm wanting to get a selenotypus, specifically the 'carbine', and I wanted to check how you keep them. I figure they are still going to be coco peat with a decent depth...
Hi Abyss
I have a 4ft tank split into three enclosures all with their own lids and I've never had any drama with the tarantulas. I bought the tank second-hand and then paid a glass cutter to put in two sheets of glass to divide the tank and smaller pieces for the lids to rest on. From memory it...
I wouldn't yet, not if its not coming out at night. There's the type of entrance blocking that is just thin webbing which may not indicate anything or the webbed up pile of dirt that in my experience means a moult is coming like this photo. If you smooth out the soil you can see if there are...
Hi Will
I use coco peat for my tarantulas and it's great. I know what you mean about the smell when it's freshly hydrated. I had my sub adult hide away for 6 weeks in November and when it came out I swear it was no bigger, but this week it pushed out its moult from 5 months ago so I guess it...
Okay good to know! Hadn't heard of monstrous before. No just being sold by its current owner.
Yeah I'm not sure about its set up.. I only own phlogius species' so if I buy it I'll be back for keeping advice :)
Hi everyone
I've found a T for sale online and just wanted to know its species. The seller refers to it as Goliath as well as selenotypus monstrous. is this right? (I thought the Goliath was phlogius not selenotypus). Apologies for the photo quality
Thanks in advance
Sam
Hi all
Someone is selling this T and have referred to it as a Goliath... But they've also said its selenotypus monstrous. (Which doesn't exist?) It looks like a selenotypus of some form. Can someone help out with what it is? Apologies for the poor photo
Hi
That is what I use for my Ts. Just put a brick in a bucket and pour in hot/cold water. I now use cold water because otherwise it gives off this weird smell. Squeeze the peat with your hand until no water runs out and its good to use.
You can get sphangnum moss at Bunnings too. It's expensive...
I'm in Australia.. pretty sure the Black Presley is phlogius and the sp2 is selenotypus. Sorry I don't know the latin names of the slings - the adults are both phlogius crassipes :)
Hi all
Hoping people can give me advice. I have two slings; a Black Presley (4cm) and a sp.2 (3cm) and the sp.2 looks like he's on his last legs. The Black Presley has thrived since I got it - eating everything I give it but the sp.2 two has never looked that good. It doesn't eat half what the...
Hi all
So I've bought a fish tank to move my T into and I have a few questions.
It's winter here (Aus) and I don't see my Kuttabul much at all so I'm not sure how I want to go about moving him. I'm thinking that I could block his hole when he comes out to feed.. I don't want to cause him stress...
