How big is the sling? What is the size of it's container? What prey items are you using, at what size, and are they live or pre-killed?
A week isnt very long for a tarantula to refuse food. However, my B. albiceps will only take live food on occasion at 1.25 inches. I usually have to pre-kill...
I have one, and I fall into the beginner category, I think. Mine is in an enclose twice the size of what is needed for a sling her size to give me more headroom and "more time to react"** and any time I have to open said enclosure, it first goes into a five gallon aquarium with a hinged acrylic...
My N. incei hadn't made an appearance in a couple of months. As it was just a juvenile, and I hadn't had it too long, I simply removed uneaten crickets and left it alone. However, the lack of glimpsing her combined with the lack of additional webbing was too much, and I just finished...
My P. sazimai thinks anything attacks anything that moves is food - the first time she flew out of her den while I was wetting the substrate and attacked the stream of water I made a noise that I am pretty sure only dogs could hear. Now I make certain she is well into her superworm before I do...
Not my main hobby (yet). I am really into heavily planted aquariums, with nano fish and shrimp and snails. I also sometimes play guitar (horribly) and read a whole lot.
We're my living situation different, I would also have snakes. One day I will have my carpet pythons again. And maybe a...
Sell? No. Send to someone else if they turn out to be male and hook out? Yes.
My first tarantulas (since getting back into the hobby, my very first had a bad molt) as a package deal of three.
Nothing medically relevant. I am frquently visited by my little nieces, I have a housecat who I am not willing to endanger, and I live with someone who has medical conditions that could make an OW bite very dangerous.
And Typhochlaena seladonia. I want one SO bad, but we'll out of my price range.
Slings are a bit more delicate than adults. Consensus on here seems to be that beginners are better off with a juvenile of 2" or larger.
That said, I have been looking for a juvenile E sp. Red for months and haven't found them. The same site that has the slings sells dram vials. These are slow...
My cat will quite literally climb up my body for a piece of sweet potato or Fig Newton and will fight to keep either.
That doesn't change the fact that she is a carnivore.
No, I don't have any sick tarantulas, but I think I am still going to just freeze the container and toss it anyway. Crickets are cheap and there is no point in taking chances.
Be aware that it may actually not be a hamorii. Basically no care difference if it turns out to be one of the other similar brachys, but I wouldn't plan on breeding it.
I am also highly skeptical about it truly being unsexed at that size. It may have been sold to them as such by their supplier...
I have access to medium and large crickets, waxworms, mealworms, silkworms, and superworms consistently. I can sometimes get "small" crickets but definitely no pinheads :(
I purchased one of those carry out cricket containers. When I took the cardboard off to open it, I noticed little flies in there. Based on previous posts, I know these are probably fungus gnats or phorid flies. I have read that phorid flies can carry nematodes so I have NOT opened the plastic...
Hi there.
I am sorry if this has been answered, but I have searched threads and seriously cannot find it anywhere. At what size does one stop offering pre-killed prey to slings? I have some that are much smaller in real life than they were in my head, so I think I am going to need to chop up...
Purchased some slings from Casey K. I was very apprehensive as I have never had spiderlings shipped before. Casey K was extremely patient and answered all of my questions very quickly. Slings were EXTREMELY well packed and arrived in perfect health. I would not hesitate to do business again...
