Yeah mine's CB : ) And she's a borneo.. They're supposed to be nicer than the bloods. I hope to pick up a couple albino bloods in the future though to start a project. There's not many people working with short tails in Canada at the moment..
sorry for all the late replies!!!
Dyn, I love them because of their short fat bodies haha girth of a giant without the size.
Novak, I usually shoot with a D300 but my dad took it to china for a couple weeks so I was shooting with a D40 and 17-55/2.8 for those pics.
jere, I've heard of...
Check out my new Borneo! I got her on Oct 25 and she weighed in at 103g. She's a normal x marble and was born June 6. I don't know what to name her yet..
Out of the 3 females I picked from, she was the smallest (only slightly) but had the nicest patterns/colours. I'm hoping that her size...
I would love some bufo alvarius if they didn't cost $150-200/specimen in canada... and that's if you can source one. The last time I personally saw one available in Canada was 2 years ago....
Thanks Mackenzie! Yeah, she is a real beauty : )
Spyder1.0, I probably won't be splitting them up any time soon because they're getting along really well right now. The enclosures are from dollarama. If I remember correctly, they were either $1.50 or $2 and they work great!!
Box opening of 5" P. regalis female from kman
kman was kind to give me a fantastic deal on a 5" female P. regalis. It went into the post last Tuesay and just came in the mail today. The video camera is out of batteries so I just took photos of the box opening instead.
The box it came in...
My rufies are always hiding. One of them will come out every so often but darts back in at the first sign of movement or vibration to his enclosure.
My P. formosa, on the other hand, are always (and I really do mean 100% always) out. Don't know why.
I find dubia will try to breed regardless of the conditions. I have kept them bone dry for the last few months to slow them down but they are still pumping out babies like no tomorrow. Many babies don't survive the low-humidity conditions though.. but many of them do since they get fruits every...
They're extremely easy to sex: Male lats have wings, females don't. Same thing with dubia.
Lat colonies are easy to keep under control. If you strip them of heat and humidity, they will try to breed but the ootheca will not hatch. When you want them going again, just give them looooots of water...
Oh, lats mostly just run around. Males will sometimes but RARELY try to fly unlike crickets that ALL jump. they're not gross at all. Once you own them, you'll realize they seem a lot cleaner than crickets because they smell less.
You'll need to get a colony going or else you might feed off all your roaches. I almost fed off my entire lat colony when I was being careless about their numbers. I know people who accidentally fed off all their males and had no males left to breed with. Make sure your colonies are on-going...
Feed them the night before you go and leave the T's with a dish of water. T's can go for extended periods without food (eg. pre-molt is a good example) so all you need to ensure is the humid loving T's don't dry out.
Powder up some dried pellet animal food with the highest protein content you can find. I noticed cat food has a higher protein content compared to dog food so that's what I use. I think it is around 32%-35% protein. Stay away from foods that contain high calcium.
Lately I've been using No Name...
I recently transitioned to peat cuz I have a massive bag (bundle?) at home and am too lazy and cheap to buy more cocofibre.
So far, it has been very satisfactory. There are little sticks in it and various sized clumps (small) so it looks way more natural than cocofibre.
