Yeah right from the getgo I knew my OBT was gonna be my flightiest. Did 3 laps around it's enclosure when I first got it.
Not sure why I went in so unprepared this time around, but i'm lucky nothing bad happened.
Yeah my OBT is my fastest, or at least she acts that way.
I have 2 psalmos and yeah they're fast, but i'm not as worried about them bolting as my OBT. They're usually pretty calm (especially my irminia) not that i'm cautious around them too.
It was my OBT of course.
Every other one of my Ts was always either super calm or just cooperative/didn't put up much of a fight..
Not the little cheese demon
Was rehousing my OBT because it molted and outgrew it's enclosure. Had no idea what I was in for.
Going back I made a couple of awful...
Most aren't exactly "slow" but if the urticating hairs are that bad for you and you want something that's (what I would consider a beginner-intermediate middle range) tarantula you could always go with a psalmopoeus. They can dart, but they're great eaters, are new world (so no super potent...
Always been fascinated by arthropods and exotic animals in general. I've kept reptiles for about 8 years now (got a turtle when I was 10), and got some geckos and a bearded dragon years later. Unfortunately the two things my mom would never "let" me get were a tarantula or a snake.
Of course...
I just love when people who have no idea what they're talking about berate and judge others who DO know what they're talking about
Even more so when their rant gets debunked ;)
I admin a page on facebook (Spidder) and commonly have to use common names because my friend who runs it gets mad when i don't include both common and scientific names.
Just last week or so I found a Xysticus sp. and posted a picture of it, and he messaged me and edited the post to include...
Ah that's crazy, i'm usually really awful at seeing subtle colors on animals and i see the cambridgei's green
(phormictopus sp green? ITS BLACK NOT GREEN) or the "pink" on a g. porteri or rosea
My P. irminia is one of my slowest Ts in my collection, although it's only 2" right now so that could change in a few molts. I also own a cambridgei and i'm definitely able to see her more often, although both of them are almost never outside of their hides, my cambridgei is just up against the...
Heh.. this is one of the reasons why i'm not really a fan of the Brachys, Aphonopelmas, and Grammostolas.. I love some of their colors but they're such slow growers, and i'm not very patient. And if you want to not wait 3-5 years for it to reach adulthood, you'll be looking at $100 or more for a...
I believe so however I'm not totally familiar with all of the state's laws regarding venomous animals
BTW If you still are interested in that brachypelma albopilosum I have a really good dealer with who I've had nothing but good experiences with who has some 3 inch juvies for like $42
Just cause I'm curious, don't plan on ordering anything abroad.. How exactly are they illegal? Are we talking jail time(lol), fines, or would nothing really happen but it's just a moral issue?
Wish that was how my parents viewed it.
They say I have "a zoo" (2 geckos and a bearded dragon, what an awful zoo LOL) and that I cant get anything else until im out of the house.
Not that they know about the spiders though. ;)
I've ordered 5 tarantulas online and the only DOA I got was a .5 inch rosea freebie with the first T i bought.
If you're getting something like a P. Metallica, M. Balfouri.. ANY mature adult, then I would go with the next day.
But i've never had an issue with 2 day.
I don't actually have a "pet rock" yet. I guess the slowest one I have would have to be my A. chalcodes, but even it bolts around when you open up the enclosure, kicks hairs, etc.
My slowest one (not counting it's ABILITY to be fast, but chooses to be slow) would probably be my p. irminia.
