From my experiences, the top two handleable species are grammostola aureostriata (chaco golden knee) and ephebopus campestratus (pink zebra beauty). I have 5 chacos and all are quite mellow, just the younger ones are a tad more skittish. I've handled quite a few pzb and they were all very...
I've only had mine for about 2 weeks now. It's a bit battered up having lost 2 legs in the past. It's about 3" now and has already started to regenerate parts of the missing legs: they are very short and thin. They are 2 back legs on the same side.
So far no digging or moving the substrate...
Actually, that's some water condensation from the substrate (a bit on the moist side).
Nope, true pic. It's the tarantula climbing out of her burrow.

It took only 10 days for the cobalt to web up the glass in her burrow so I couldn't see anymore...
She was in this setup for about a year where I only saw her 2 or 3 times. I later moved her back into a large kritter keeper as this nice big setup was a waste for this...
Hi all,
My newest aquisition was a pair of grammostola aureostriata breeding pair. They've been paired off for three weeks now with at least 5 good insertions at the beginning (so I was told) and the female is definitely gravid.
I've taken the male out as I think I'll give him a shot with...
I'm a huge fan of foamariums for nice T display setups. I currently have two Ts set up this way and all who have been introduced to one took to it right away. They are completely safe to use in a T enclosure, I recommend adding some substrate to make more comfy and look better. Here are some...
While your waiting for the next molt to see if the smell goes away, you can always get yourself a couple of baking soda boxes to put in the closet with the enclosure to keep offensive smells down. Get the ventilated ones that are for the fridge and it should help cut down on some of the smell...
Ahhhhhh, those darned crickets...
I've had a phobia of grasshoppers and crickets since my early teens and it is quite a process for me to feed my Ts. At first, I would have my bf feed crix to my Ts because I just couldn't get close to them without having a panic attack. But with my T...
I would strongly suggest you use the 3% (10 volumes) peroxide sold as a disinfectant.
Hairdresser peroxide is much stronger and could very likely hurt and/or kill your T. The strength of regular hairdresser peroxyde is 20 volumes and they have them in varying strengths up to 40 volumes...
From what I know, a tarantula will not over eat to the point of killing itself by exploding. Over feeding will keep your T's abdomen very big and very fragile. It would be much more suceptable to an injury due to a fall.
I feed my Ts according to the size of their abdomens. I like keeping...
I actually have done the same thing yesterday with an a. seemani sling. The sling is 3/4" and the cricket offered was at least that. I can't stand getting close to the cricket to yank the jumping legs off (cricket-phobia) but what I do is get one in a container and shake it up really well...
The Montreal Insectarium is quite good, has a great variety and many live displays of various inverts. Not too many Ts on my last visit (I have more, lol) but still have a few interesting species and nice setups.

I have a gorgeous adult female h. lividium and aren't too sure what I'm going to do with her care wise.
She is set up in a large kritter keeper in which she excavated herself beautiful tunnels & webbing. I have had her for about 3 years and this is the first time she has put so much work...
It may be wise to sell or trade them off for species you are more willing to take care of. Having a s. calceatum myself, I know all too well how fast they can be and just knowing that they have a significant venom stresses me out. The fact that I almost lost mine in my flat a few months back...
Great picture!!!
Not only the mom and slings but it's the first pic that I've ever seen of a T where you can clearly see the claws they have at the tips of their legs. Very very cool!!!

Actually, I have seen the b. boehmi labelled as a Mexican Beauty quite often.
I've seen the b. baumgarteni labelled as the Mexican Orange Beauty.
Just what I have seen!

I had my first tarantula for over two years before I attempted to handle her! You can definitely care for them well without having to pick them up in your hands or touch them directly. I never had any intense fears of spiders but wasn't in a rush to hold a tarantula, it's one thing to touch or...
