Yeah they can definitely hurt you and the boots definitely aren't protection, in my case it was the fact that the snake was only about 12 inches long and equally slender and both fangs hit directly on the steel due to it's size, any bigger or any further up my foot and I would have been hit by...
I stepped on one during an early season dove hunt about 8 years ago, thank god that I had steel toed boots on and it hit my toes or else it could have ended really badly.
I like providing multiple hides if I have enough space to do so, gives the T a chance to feel secure wherever it is in the enclosure and I personally think it provides more opportunities to see them because they don't feel exposed as much as only providing a single hide that they never leave.
I agree, wish there was some form of screening when people went to an LPS to keep idiots from getting an animal they're going to neglect or otherwise make life generally miserable for.
Sorry for your loss man, seems to have been a bad year for me too starting with my beloved stirmi in the same circumstances. You are absolutely right that losses happen to everyone knowing that doesn't make it easier though it does keep you from beating yourself up over like I did when I had my...
That's disgusting, if they aren't going to care for them why should people even be getting these spiders in the first place clearly they don't want them.
Could wait until the morning and set it outside in the sun if that would work, I do live in Arizona the dry air probably wouldn't do them any good either.
Not exactly related to keeping inverts but I opened my humidor to check on the humidity and found tobacco beetles, following standard practice I moved the cigars to the fridge but what can I use to clean the humidor without putting my spiders at risk?
Quarantine the rest of your inverts, replace your food source if it isn't wild caught and sterilize all tools, transfer the spiders into temporary sanitized enclosures while you sterilize their enclosures and replace all hides, substrate and water dishes.
Definitely taking it in for a necropsy is his best chance of finding out what happened though you're going to have figure out the cost of vet fees is worth it, I had one done on a scorpion that ended up costing $75.
Yeah it sucks when it works out like that, not much you can do to predict of prevent an early molt though still as big of a pain as she's being she's my favorite spider so I'll keep trying.
She molts every 8-9 months and her last was in October so I figured I had plenty of time...evidently not though now that she is freshly molted I'm going to look for a male.
