Yeah. I will probably only keep a few beetles alive now. I was planned by on mounting then when they died but now that most of my females aren't laying eggs I will probably only keep the one laying female and my most mpressive male (he only had s few mites). Man this this stinks. There is really...
At the end of August I caught 9 D. grantii, but I didn't even think to check for mites. I now have a major problem because I have only gotten eggs from one of my four females, and I figure this must be due to the mites. I just noticed them this last week, but several beetles have it really bad...
To be honest, I have raised this species on various mixes. I have used a mix of decomposing leaves and rotten wood, but I have also used almost completely hardwood and the grubs seemed ok both ways. But there might be one that's better than the other, it has just been my experience that they can...
Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I'll probably stick with pothos, but I would like to ad some moss too. Is there a good online site to buy pesticide free plants? I think I remember looking at one that was named something New England something that was based on dart frogs, I'll have to loom them up.
As @NathanJBoob said, that's a morning cloak butterfly (Nymphalis antiopa) which hibernates in crevices and whatnot. If you were poking at it, it was probably lethargic from the cold.
I have always wanted to set up a nice vivarium because I love how they look. I recently got a LP which handles humidity fine so I am finally going to try. Nothing fancy, but I still want to make it look nice. I just bought a 10 gallon and I need advice on what plants to put in it. I have pothos...
My B. albo actually really dislikes moist sub. Last rehouse she spent a few days on the walls of her enclosure until the sub dried out some more. I always keep her on completely dry sub with a water dish on one side and she does fine.
You can freeze the food to kill them. Idk if it's ok to feed the current mix since they're already in there, but if your paranoid in the future it's one way to kill them.
Soooo... it turns out my mom just threw away the fruit fly trap because it had been sitting for a few weeks and was starting to get smelly. So unfortunately I cant post pics, but I can assure you it worked really well.
I found a way to use vinegar! I have an empty yogurt container I put about two inches of apple cider vinegar. Above that on the sides I put some clear fly paper window strips. I poked holes in the lid. The fruit flies are attracted to the vinegar, go in through the holes, and get stuck to walls...
I thought it was a nymph, but now that I think about it it is late in the season for a nymph and the oldest nymph's wings are shorter that that. Just ignore me lol
Someone mentioned termites earlier I believe. When I was hunting for solfugids scorps and the like earlier in the year I found hundreds of termites under rocks in desert terrain. Maybe they would like those?
