I for one, would be a little reluctant to buy illegally imported roaches (or any insect) of an undeterminable state of age and health, where nobody in the USA is certain of thier husbandry requirements, without first consulting an authority on the insect in question. Then hope the USDA and...
As far as I can tell, all the M. rhino's in the USA came from the Netherlands somehow... beyond that its anybody's guess. Most other species were imported for study by Universities for study at USDA approved facilities and later 'disposed of' into the general community after considerable time...
In culture WHERE, exactly? I have not seen any report of them anywhere or anyone admitting to it outside of Australia, and not even there by most accounts. To make a statement as such without corroborating information would appear to be false.
Correct. This has been a highly desired species, but it is not in culture anywhere on the globe so knowing how to propagate them would entail a bit of a learning curve, which would be expensive. Additionally, getting that imported into the USA would only happen illegally and expensively. From...

Thanks for the info. The bin of water has been there for 5 years now, and without me adding anything to it other than three plants it has become heavily colonized with diving beetles, water striders, dragonfly larvae, daphnia, ostracods, various worms, and many other insects and invertebrates...
Just wonding if anyone who is a camera buff has taken dragonfly photos this year? I keep a 9 foot bin of water in my backyard with some aquatic plants, and do what I can to attract dragonflies. Here are two recent ones I "caught" (on camera):
Please feel free to add photos to this...

OR, you can get one of several inexpensive and complete books to have on hand, and never have to find a link online!
Example of a great one:

I recently went to the Victoria Bug Zoo in Victoria, British Colombia, Canada. On the way home I lost my SD card to my camera with the photos, so here is the text I have to offer:
It was a small-ish building with an excellent selection of 'bugs' of all sorts. There was a heavy selection of...
Northern June bug....
Nice photos! Nice find too. I really like it when people take a good photo of any bug and post it online so I can live vicariously through thier camera lens.... ;)
Comparative genitalia analysis of the males is what is needed. How did you come to think this is a new species and not a geographical form of a known species? Have you already checked with the BCG list? How can you tell its not a hybrid?
There are instructions on how to culture them online....
Very easy to do. All you need is:
32 oz plastic deli-cup with lid, preferably the one with the paper-filter covered holes commonly seen in the bug hobby.
A piece of egg carton.
A cotton ball, must be made from actual cotton...
That book is awful.
If you really want a "complete" cockroach book, this is the real deal:
Cockroaches: Ecology, Behavior, and Natural History
by William J. Bell, Christine A. Nalepa, Louis M. Roth, Edward O. Wilson
Link to where to find it or see it...
I have personally encountered USDA officials, and have had them show up at my doorstep, and have been contacted by another who read this forum and asked me about another member.
You better believe they occasionally read these threads.
