That would be the embolus. The bulb where the male stores the sperm for mating. Compare it to these pictures for instance: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/the.tarantula.store/embolus-Brachypelma.htm

My Avicularia minatrix shelf.
I decided I needed a new breeding project and after considerable thought I decided to try breeding A. minatrix. I have recieved 0.5.3 so far and have a subadult male on its way.
The terrariums are somewhat of a temporary solution. I have bought six Exo-terra nano...
Veryn very nice.
I love the C. cyaneopubescens and this spider looks like it is even prettier!
I am not envious of breeding them though, oooh, what stress!
Good luck!
Very nice!
Now feed them like crazy and breed them!
I saw you have gotten a third one as well, any guesses for sex or is it still too small?
Peace

Very nice pictures Aphophis!
I really like how the toes of the ornata is sticking outside the frame in the first one. A very nice surrealistic touch to it!

I made an unseccessful attempt at mating m female H. lividum.
I let the female settle in a terrarium about 40x40 cm (16x16in) with 20cm (8in) of peat in the bottom and then let the male in. I did not see any mating or aggression so I left him there. He lived out his days ~4 month and then died...
My female C. cyaneopubescens. I bought her as one of 10 slings in august 2007 She is now about 5cm body length and probably breedable by the next molt if she is not already.
The picturesare taken with a flash so the blues are accentuated but I dont see why these juwels are not as sought after...
That is cool! Is it the Cyriopagopus sp. "blue" or another one? Or is it still a secret? ;)
I wonder if the blue coloration would still be there in a light specimen like that. That would be awesome, imagine a light metallic blue spider 25 cm across.

Just a guess:
The small tubular structures in pics 7, 8 and 9, could they not be some kind of duct transporting nutrients to the sperms in the spermatheca?
Or perhaps the ducts throuh which the fluid that is extruded together with the eggs when the sac is made passes through? haemolymph...
I did not mean to offend, if I did so, I apologize.
I realize it is hard to know stuff when no information is offered, I have only been lurking so I have not filled out the info either. It is now amended.
I am a 27 yo biologist from Sweden with a love for exotic pets.

Hello.
I have a MM A. versicolor that was born in summer 2007. He matured at approx 18 months of age and I did not powerfeed him or anything.
He is quite small though only about 10 cm legspan. Edit: It took him 11 or 12 molts from sling to adulthood.
I also have a female C. cyaneopubescens of...
Small M. balfouri are only about €100. Expensive? yes, $1000? no.
And there is hardly any information about them, the OP does not actually have the spiders yet so he is trying to procure information in advance, properly.
And how do you know Norsken is not sitting on Norways largest collection...
In this thread you can see pictures of a white G. rosea NCF. Pretty cool but not what you get if you buy the spiders from LPS.

They are not really hard to get in europe anymore, just expensive. If you go into this site http://www.terraristik.com/tb/list_classifieds.php and write "balfouri" in the box where it says "Volltextsuche" You will get a lot of hits with people selleng M. balfouri including females.
As for how...
