I apologize if this is the wrong forum -- please point me elsewhere if so =)
I'm moving across the country from NY, and have never packed spiders for shipping before. I'm worried that my inexperience will result in my Ts not making the trip safely.
I have two Ts that are somewhere between...
I noticed earlier in the week that the grapevine in my avic's enclosure was starting to grow a little bit of yellow mold. I think the ventilation is not sufficient. I've been thinking about rehousing her anyway, but now it's something I definitely need to do.
I found a really nice exoterra...
Over the summer, I built a custom enclosure for my close-to-full-grown A.avic. It is a glass fish tank on its side, with a lip at the bottom of the open side to hold in the substrate, and above that the "door" to the enclosure which swings downward to open. I glued some nice pieces of cork bark...
Occasionally there are shows downstate if you're willing to drive that far (Poughkeepsie area). Otherwise, check the review section for reputable dealers that will ship to you.
Worked great for me, just took a lot of patience.
I recently rehoused my 2" C. crawshayi. I put a small container over the top of the burrow entrance, and fifteen minutes and 2 bottles of water later, he was in the transitory container. Getting him out of that was another issue, but he...
One of my Ts was constantly burying its dish, so I glued it to the side of the enclosure, hoping it would keep the dish above ground. It worked fine for a while, but then my T started filling it with substrate, and it's starting to look a little icky. Any advice on cleaning it?
I got mine at just under 1" back in February/March-ish, and it's molted 2-3 times (no "power-feeding" either, I wonder why the difference in number of molts?) Mine hasn't grown all that much, maybe about .25", but the molts have been like clockwork... bury self, molt, get really skinny, un-bury...
I noticed that as well. I also saw (and I have no idea what you were saying in the vids; unfortunately, I have no sound on this computer) that you threw what looked like a wadded up paper towel in there, which she immediately grabbed up, then discarded. It was like she quickly realized that this...
Trust me, I'm anti-cricket too, lol I hate the things. Raising roaches just isn't very practical for me right now... I only have 3 Ts, it's much cheaper and easier to pick up crickets every other week or so. Guess I'll just have to play it safe then.
Sometime in the last 48 hrs, a tiny bit of mold seems to have grown in the container I keep my crickets in. I plan on cleaning out the cage tomorrow, but my question is, is there any reason these crickets would be unsafe to feed to my Ts? I'd hate to just get rid of them (and wasn't planning on...
I have two others: A. avic and C. crawshayi. The crawshayi eats just as much, but is usually a much calmer and more patient hunter. The avic doesn't usually eat right after the crickets go in, and I rarely see her actually snag the cricket... though when I do see her hunt it's often quite...
Agreed. Mine was extremely picky from the time I rehoused her until she molted a few months later. I think she ate maybe once during that time. In the many months since then she's been a beast, definitely my most aggressive eater.
I know it hasn't been a week yet, but any updates? Your surgery thread was one of the most amazing things I've seen, and I'm really hoping the best for the little gal, and can't wait for more news on how she's doing.
Haha sorry, didn't mean to gang up on you lol. But I agree with you here. I don't know nearly enough about chemistry to say it's a specific chemical, but the diaper seems like the most likely culprit.
I had a T die in that position, but I don't know whether there's a link between mine and yours. It was a sling I bought that arrived DOA. I assume that due to the tight packing, it was unable to go into a death curl when it died, though I might be mistaken.
You may be right, but I'd still...
I think I may have asked this before, but no one seemed to have an answer... at about what size does this become a reliable way to sex? If a small crawshayi (too small to accurately tell ventrally) had thick back legs, would that necessarily mean it was female?
I'm so sorry! Just do the best you can with liquid bandaid and an ICU, and hopefully the little guy will pull through. Keep us updated on his condition, I really hope he makes it.
