Like I stated on another forum if u don't get a new plexi lid right away, simply make a framed border around the lid with packing tape, so the T cannot get a leg caught in the mesh. Works great.
Just keep it well fed. Offer prey a lil more than normal too because IF u chop a cricket up by the time u feed the T, there isn't as much a meal as normal.
I am in love with all 5 of mine. One is a 5" female and she's awesome. I've had her since 3/8", and love her. She's an eating machine but still a sweetheart when I hold her. Calm, beautiful, hairy, itchy looking, lol. Don't know about the hairs....no urticating hairs seem to bother me much.
I just had my genic molt 2 weeks ago, and it lost the fangs in the molt. It's only 1.5" and I worried. After it was ready to eat, I cut the heads off 2 crickets, cut em into pieces, added a few drops of water a made a cricket gumbo fir the sling. I dropped the goo in front of the sling. And it...
A happy ending....
When I bought my first B smithi, it was a 1/4" or so sling. I put it in an enclosure with tiny holes but that nite I checked on it and it was gone. I looked for days but nothing.
One day my then 7 yo daughter was playing w her toys on the floor next to the tv stand. She...
U thought that was bad, lol. I rescued a male T stirmi a while back n he is in bad shape, especially his abdomen with a growth on it. He's still eating, roaming and doing his thing tho. Not stopping me from trying to mate him also. As a reference my hand is 8", so he's diagonally bigger, and...
U may just need to feed em a tad more BUT all my albop have mighty appetites. Even when not hungry they'll walk towards me shaking a brush in front of em. If u wanted to test his hunger/aggression, drip some water drops right in front of em and see if he attacks. If so, feed em...if not, do ur...
I've done this before. If u have them, and u should, get ur long tweezers, and poke down along the plastic side of the enclosure heading towards the worm. Open a tiny pocket by moving the tip of the tweezers to get a bite, then pull the worm out. It minimally damages the hide so the T barely notices
Whatever you do, don't disturb the dirt web, or the T. Just keep the water dish full, and leave it alone.
It's silly for someone to say 100% it's stressed because of a rehouse, without that info, but whatever the reason, it wants peace n privacy
U can get a bag of 150, 3 different sizes of 50, of tattoo ink caps on eBay for $8 shipped. They are great because u can push them into the substrate, and the little flat lip sits flush. Perfect for the growing sling.
I have one and can see why many on here say NO. Although they're "hardy", the problem may arise when ur doing maintenance or more importantly, rehousing. A lot of times, they'll threat pose, or even strike all around themselves, when u simply open the enclosure, so the utmost care needs to be...
