Emperor scorpion in burrow, Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire.

Photographed in a village in South-East Côte d'Ivoire, along the border with Ghana. Also saw a massive emperor scorpion, sadly chopped in half on a path. Will keep an eye out for others.

Composted manure has already been decomposed (why it doesn't smell), and won't be useful to a dung beetle. I offered mine fresh dung once a week, they would quickly roll it up and bury it, once it is buried you shouldn't smell anything.

I would leave it in for the night and take it out in the morning
