    Culture of green roach colony

I clean my roach boxes with a paper towel soaked in alcohol, just remove the roaches, dump the substrate, and wipe down. Then let it dry fully before adding new roaches and substrate. As for food they like fruit, I like to make a purée with papaya and melon and whatever other fruits I have, a...

    Culture of green roach colony

Yeah it works pretty well especially because I mix up my own roach food recipe (it's a mush kind of, easier for little nymphs to eat and the adults love it) and freeze dollops of it. Whenever I need more food in there I just thaw out another dollop on a paper plate and put it in there. Keeps it...

    Culture of green roach colony

I use a piece of paper plate to feed my roaches and just throw it out every morning and replace it. Thinking about getting some giant panchloras as well, they're pretty cool

    Heterometrus Longimanus are greedy!

I've witnessed Heterometrus (btw I've now identified my "Longimanus" and laoticus) try to take works from each other and drop works trying to grab more lol. They're so fun to watch.

    Euphoric Stings.

I've heard reports of street vendors in India selling scorpion stings. Apparently they're psychoactive, but I'm not sure which species is used or even if these reports are true.

And this is why one needs to be careful when housing Pandinus imperator together...

I once added a new P. Cavimanus to an enclosure with another. Here were plenty of hides and food, but the newbie ate my other cavimanus anyway. It defies reason. Sorry for your loss.

    Anti-Venom shortage

This article makes me wonder if an inoculation campaign is completely out of the question. Freeze dried venoms are cheaper than antivenins, and would be easy to manufacture even in poorer parts of Africa. They could be injected at ascending dosages until the patient has an immunity to the snake...

    Differences between Heterometrus sp?

Hey so I was looking at my aleged H. Longimanus and noticed one is bigger and broader than the other. In most species I'd just assume that the large one is a female, but H. Longimanus is supposed to be an all female species. Upon inspection of their pectines I saw no difference in size. They...

Culling my feeder colony, need suggestions

I'd recommend taking out all the roaches you want and separating them then pouring a couple bottles of acetone nail polish remover into the bin and sealing off the air holes with tape. Then just leave it for a day or two. Acetone fumes kill insects fast and are used to kill insects for pinning...

    Life after death?

This thread is amusing. If this is pulled off successfully, it will be fascinating! Best of luck tfisher, whatever species your t is! Also this makes me wonder if artificial insemenation is possible with arachnids. If it was I could imagine breeders buying sperm packets off of other hobbyists to...

    Phyllium monteithi 'the walking leaf'

Someone needs to start a petition to legalize Phasmids and other insects in the states where winters would kill them off. I personally know of a bunch of people that would sign it.

    Scorpion Feeding Frustrations

I feed my Heterometrus Longimanus superworms. I use pliers to hold the superworms and wiggle them in front of the scorps, they always just reach up and take them. Try that method, in my experience crickets are too fast for larger forest dwelling species.

OBT BITE!! Nerve block at ER - a lifesafer

As bad as the bites are I think OBT's are gorgeous spiders. I've never owned a T But baboon spiders are just amazing. Glad you're alright now. And don't listen to the people saying you'll put the hobby in jeopardy, you needed them to know what to do to get you better and took measures to make...

    Unknown Gecko, please help identify!

Very cute little gecko! And you got it for free, what a find! It's a Mediodactylus kotschyi. Keep it like you would a house gecko, maybe with a clay substrate and lots of things to climb on.

Opinion piece: Keeping Australian Natives as pets is a good idea

Pu never implied I'd want a dingo as I have no idea how to take care of one but for real ithe idea of owning one is cool. Also lets stop the hateful and/or passive aggressive comments here

    Phyllium monteithi 'the walking leaf'

As far as the reproduction goes, it's best to sell or freeze any excess eggs you have. You can also burn them. It's sad but if you can't deal with a lot of Phasmids I suppose it's the way to go, unless you have something you can feed the babies to like a gecko or possibly mantis. And I'd go with...

Opinion piece: Keeping Australian Natives as pets is a good idea

I agree so much with this. It would end smuggling and help endangered species get a foothold. I think the best bet would be for the Australian government to allow people to start breeding and exporting them. It would be a lucrative business plus a creative way to save species from extinction...
