So, I just recently discovered this species and have fallen in love. I'm interested in adding it to my ever-growing wishlist but before I do, I wanted to know some info about it. I've looked up care sheets and whatnot and cannot come up with much so I thought why not turn to Arachnoboards? I'm...
I've only encountered three in my life that I remember (I've never intentionally looked for them until recently). Two were close to or on wooden doors. My front door at a house when I was a child and inside a hole in a flimsy wooden door recently. The last one I found at the house I was in...
My first tarantula, just got it yesterday. Aphonopelma chalcodes - a beautiful and sweet T. It's been an absolute angel! And a voracious eater, already. Also, this is its favorite spot to attack prey.
I wish people gifted me tarantulas! :D
But, from stories gathered on the internet, it appears G. rosea and B. smithi are the most common species gifted to people (probably because they're the most popular in pet stores).
I plan to take the light off, I just had it there for the picture because it's a little dark in my room at the moment. :) And I have another brick and a half sitting out right now that I'll be adding. Thank you for the suggestions!
EDIT: Also, it won't be here until Tuesday at the earliest...
I'm anxiously awaiting my first T so I've been looking at this thread to calm myself and get ideas for enclosures, at the same time! Here's what I have so far for my A. chalcodes but it isn't done yet:
Also, don't mind the mess around the enclosure -- I've been moving quite a bit of stuff...
I will probably try later tonight to do that! She's pretty docile (even when gravid, she had a very sweet disposition) and lets me direct her around pretty easily. I'm personally leaning toward Alopecosa from picture I.D. alone but it is highly likely I am wrong because I find it very hard to...
If you want a creepy, mythological feel, here ya go:
Apollyon
Erebos
Cerberus
Valdis
Teivel
Eris
And of course... Arachne. ;)
A personal favorite of mine is also Robert.
A wolf spider washed up in a rainstorm in early May on my driveway (it sheltered itself in an unused dog bowl). Its legs were a little wet but it was otherwise fine. Upon closer inspection, I noticed it was a gravid female and considering the forecast was for much, much more rain (and my dad...
