    LOTS of bird questions...

all true I currently have 5 "rescue" (abandoned) birds with various levels of traumatization that I've been working w/ for over 2 years in some cases. Big birds especially just really don't make very good pets for most people. I am becoming a believer that it is more appropriate for birds to...

    Cinnamon for Ts?

repellant Cinnamon is a natural insect repellant, and most find it very irritating. Good way to keep ants from coming around. Don't know how it specifically affects T's, but I'd guess it's pretty irritating to them.

    New MM

So, last night I was working on my T's doing maintenance etc. and I decided to take the plunge and see what the heck happened to my E. murinus. I have not seen him for a month, roaches have not disappeared, no signs of life. He normally hangs at the mouth of his humongous burrow at night, but...

    T Collection Size Question

control reproduction You can control roach reproduction to some extent by controlling temps. B. dubia don't really breed much in temps under 90 degrees, so if my colony gets too big, I just turn off the heat. Also, roaches live up to a couple of years, so you could also just keep a bunch of...

    Next T?

Gbb? Can't imagine using either of my GBB's as handleable display T's, they're spazzy and hair-kicky as heck! I would echo the suggestions of G. aureo or other docile Grammostola's. Also, I would vote Aphonopelma chalcodes as one of the most docile, chill, easy to handle T's out there.

    aside from pinheads

freeze You can also freeze them and cut them into nice chunks like cookie dough if your slings are really small. (don't bake them though!)

do you live in the pacific northwest?

Boise There's a few people in Boise that have T's and who knows, they might be interested. A little far to travel up there very often, but who know? Tony

    Savannah Monitor

huh? What you don't know about Idaho is that we have these things called grocery stores that carry all kinds of seafood and they even have milk in cartons! They're so much easier to load onto the buggy and when we hit the big bumps in the trail, they don't break like the glass bottles. Then...

    planning on getting first tarantula

Another one to consider I think that G. aureostriata is an excellent candidate as several people have suggested; better looking than LP IMO, big, visible, rarely flicks hairs. Also, Aphonopelma chalcodes is probably the most docile and handleable of all T's, and is good looking. Both have no...

    Injured Red Rump

wait No reason to rush feeding post molt. As a good indicator, wait until the fangs are black. Generally, the bigger the t, the longer the wait. I wait about two weeks for adults. Also, most slings will readily accept pre-killed food, or you can headcrush the cricket. Eliminates the...

    Superworm question

yes Yes, these can be a hazard to your t if left in there during a molt. Headsquishing is good advice, and eliminates the burrowing and the hazard.

My thoughts on the B. Albopilosum

agreed My very first slings were tiny little B. albo's and it has been very cool watching them grow into chunky bulldozing hairballs. Very forgiving slings to start with, and they grow pretty fast for a Brachy. They make an excellent first t (or 3rd or 90th) and are underrated imho. Like...

    Line on some T's?

Rosie in a 10 I don't think 10 is too much for a Rosie. Mine is in a 10 and has burrows throughout the entire tank + a hide that she occupies as well. That being said, she'd do just as well in a 5. I vote for just getting another tank or 2. Actually, you should get 20 as you'll need them...

    GBB sling info

dry They can be kept pretty dry, I only moisten the sub a little bit in one corner, or drop a few drops on webbing. As adults they can be kept bone dry with a water dish. They're pretty speedy/spazzy for a terrestrial, and web like crazy. I wouldn't feed them anything as small as fruit flies...

Can someone ID this T please!

Haplo something Is about as close as you can get. This genus is realllllly hard to ID correctly and there is much discussion about what's what. Especially w/ MM. The Haplopelmas are a cool genus IMHO. Kind of pet holes (ok, really really pet holes) but if you start the burrow out against...

moving t's and a gtp from house to car in winter ???

loan I'm betting that if you made a couple of calls to your friends you could borrow their coolers for one day. Just don't tell them what you're putting in them!

moving t's and a gtp from house to car in winter ???

yup Cooler and a hand warmer and you're good to go. This is also a lifesaver in a power outage. You can keep t's warm for days this way. Always a good idea to keep a supply of heat packs on hand just in case.

Any one have advice on caring for a 1'' cobalt blue?

Coco fiber is a little harder for obligate burrowers to form into burrows. I think peat works better. Potting soil is largely peat as well. Make sure your sling can't get out of a KK, I'm pretty sure at 1" it could get out. A peanut butter jar (plastic) with a screw top lid works great...
