They really are. This morning I caught him webbing it up and making a bit of a dirt door earlier this week. Looks like he's getting ready to seal in for a molt..finally haha.

Though I have seen others be able to do it from pics similar to my first. And it's after the first set of book lungs, at least on Tappis where the female "slit" is.
Female? While it looks like there might be bulbs on the pedipalps, there is none in real life. Just seems to be the angle she likes eating at give that effect mixed with the lighting.
