I never think to snap pics of my beauties these days but some updates:
My very first t, the c. versicolor, is sadly a male. However, he is gorgeous and healthy and has at least one more molt to go. Attached is a picture of him.
My two psalmos are both mature and confirmed female. I am utterly...
I have a dubia colony that feeds 7 geckos, a beardie and all my tarantulas easily. I do also keep supers/mealies around just to have variety, but the dubia are far and away the easiest/cheapest to keep. They get old gecko food, veggies that are too far gone to eat and my beardie's leftover...
Long time no post. Just moved to a new place and got some lenses for my iPhone, which is still how I take my pictures. Figured I'd give some updates!
Click for bigger, I believe... new to this new forum style. Fudge Brownie is still fat and happy. As you can see my b smithi Cherry Cordial...
I've lost track of when I got my first tarantula. I believe it's been about a year and a half now? Maybe closing in on two? I got my first OW species in October though, an i. mira sling and an m. balfouri sling. I've rehoused them each once (not counting their arrival) and the i. mira was a huge...
Definitely my b. Emilia. It's so docile and gentle I've worried that it was dead a few times. No matter what's happening around it, it just sits there placidly. I've nudged it with tongs before and even lifted the plant it was sitting on and gotten no reaction whatsoever (though if you bother it...
Huh, mine never leaves its burrow when I open the enclosure. I don't think I've ever seen it dart out. Even rehousing it wasn't a big deal - it just scooted out and darted into the starter burrow I'd made for it. Interesting how much they can vary in terms of behavior.
Mine is also fairly...
I have one, I keep it nice and moist. Mine is still itty bitty even after two molts but already brilliant blue. The care has been pretty simple so far though, haven't had any issues. I gave mine plenty of space for burrowing and it has a cool little webbed up burrow beneath a cork bark. I rarely...
This thread makes me happy, welcome to the hobby! Tarantulas are beautiful and fascinating animals.
Also, no worries about a heat mat, your tarantula will be just fine without it, and they can overheat easily and kill him otherwise. They are mostly very simple to care for.
Gosh it's been a while. I've been super busy, but all the spiders are doing great! I snapped a few quick shots today to share.
First of all here's Fido, my hogna carolinensis that I caught at work the day before they sprayed for bugs. Little thing is so fun to watch. I gave it a nice big...
No pics, just yet anyway, but my i. species Dominican has molted and is still tinier than my pinky nail. And yet already so blue. My i. Mira also molted and actually sat out of its burrow for a while the other day. The little monster is already a molt away from needing a bigger home, which means...
Oh I would absolutely love to, the pics on your thread are part of why I want them! But they are so rare and expensive. I'd like more experience before getting one, but it's more on a "definitely someday" list than the others.
In the next year I'm hoping to add a couple from the following list:
b. klaasi (I only see this available when I can't afford them, sigh)
l. klugi
g. iheringi
b. boehmei
a. purpurea, velutina & braunshauseni (hard to find I read)
c. ritae
b. auratum
b. albiceps
t. plumipes
m. robustum
homoeomma...
This has been my experience as well. I've seen my NW slings flit across their enclosures in a just as incomprehensible fashion as my OWs. I treat all my ts (and true spiders, though that's a given) as though they're capable of such speed, since in my experience, they are.
Hehe, thank you! Believe it or not most of the ones you see there have molted (at least) twice since I got them. I like watching them grow, it's so rewarding.
