    Centipede ID?

Jokes, this is totally a Florida Blue Centipede. Any ideas what to feed this guy? I made him a terrarium out of that tubberware container and I don't think he's big enough to take down a cricket yet.

    Centipede ID?

Hey guys, roommate found this around our apartment. Appears to me to be a scolopendra polymorpha but we're in SC and I don't believe they are native to here. Any help?

    Introducing Found Rocks

Not in this context but when camping I have had rocks used to line a fire pit explode because they contained water. It just has to do with the water molecules being trapped inside the rock structure and the resulting increase in pressure when you heat them overcoming the structural stability of...

    Introducing Found Rocks

Don't use stream rocks (usually very smooth) though because they can explode when you evaporate the water trapped inside the stone.

    Your carnivorous plant pics

Could you post a picture of that set-up? Appears to be some sort of glass display case? I'm setting up a recently vacated room in my apartment with a series of plants and am looking for some good storage methods.

    Polymorpha loose in my house

Can you post a picture of your enclosure? Trying to keep tabs on this sort of event and maybe move towards a more standardized enclosure that they don't escape from.

    Hatari Inverts?

Is there a website for these guys? My professor of all people brought this name up as one of his friends who runs this business in his retirement. I was hoping to get into contact before I head out to NM to collect some specimens.

    Scorpion/Centipede etc wholesaler?

Galapoheros I see your point here. And this may be a point of distinction between sschind and I; I am more just looking for a reliable supplier of a few different species of scolopendra- I either have found breeders who once in awhile get a WC one in stock but at sporadic periods or I see...

    Scorpion/Centipede etc wholesaler?

I think it's because people have a hard time breeding them (at least from what I have read). The proteomics studies I have followed all involved live capture of the specimens because there was no way to purchase them.

    Scorpion/Centipede etc wholesaler?

Are you looking for someone local? I too am looking for wholesale centipedes for research and have yet to find a reliable supplier.

    Arachnid

Found this guy (sadly deceased) on the floor outside one of our Biology labs. Not necessarily a tarantula, but can anyone give me an idea?

Good places to hunt for scorpions

A good friend of mine is currently spending time in the area and has seen S. polymorphia, multiple scorpions, and vinegaroons everywhere. Also desert spiny lizards.

    Cockroach Neuroanatomy

Hey guys, Does anyone happen to know how many neurons there are in each of the ventral nerve cords of a madagascar hissing cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa)? I'm confused because I know there are 10 giant interneurons but not sure if these are considered part of the ventral nerve chord...

Spider ID help please- Southeastern US

Thank you! Funnel web had been my guess after seeing the distinctive hole in many webs leading into the rock face, but good to confirm. And yes it would be very unlikely indeed to find a trapdoor behaving like this. I fear my eyes are going to need some training yet before I can learn to spot...

Spider ID help please- Southeastern US

While on a hike in western South Carolina today I came across a stone wall built in 1820. It was absolutely covered in these spider webs at every nook and cranny. I was hoping someone could identify what they are for me? This picture was the best I could get with my camera phone, I...

    Feeding question

Thanks! I was thinking that, but the fact that they were hungry enough after two weeks to go to the substrate and hunt springtails had me second guessing. I guess they were just establishing dominance :)

    Feeding question

I have two damon diadema in a 12x12x18 exo terra and I went about 3 weeks between feedings because I am a terrible person and it's far to get crickets (for some reason every time I try to keep them they escape my critter keeper and I just find them all over the apartment). I fed them about 10...

What are some of your setups/methods of getting such great pictures? I need a new SD card for my camera but looking to get some good pictures. Do you use flash in darkness or have a light already on?
