    P. regius egg sac photo story - they hatched!

After giving it a great deal of thought, and observing a video of a more experienced keeper giving it a try, I made the decision to move the nest before the babies emerged so I could keep them in a more convenient container. It went off without a hitch! There were 5 escapees, all of whom were...

    P. regius egg sac photo story - they hatched!

I'm going to wait two months and then try to separate them! I'll probably do it in the bath and with crossed fingers :p I'll post it when it happens!

    P. regius egg sac photo story - they hatched!

You can offer food to the mother, but mine didn't take any until she was out of the nest and walking around so if she doesn't take it immediately I would just remove it. I gave mine water every few days but for two weeks she really didn't leave the nest, and often adding food only inspired her...

    Sick Female Jumping Spider

Wait until they're out to start feeding them, I don't think they cannibalise each other until they are a little older -- again that's advice I've received not first-hand experience. There's a Facebook group with lots of experienced keepers -- it's here if you'd like to join!

    Sick Female Jumping Spider

I have a clutch of slings not yet out of the nest. The advice I received from an experienced breeder was around 2 months to separate, so long as you provide lots of food for the communal set up in the meantime. Haven't done it myself, but it's what I'm intending to try! This was for P. Regius.

    [Warning] Tarantulas Bristol (UK)

She has a decently obvious ventral view so I'm not too worried, never know though eh

    [Warning] Tarantulas Bristol (UK)

I actually had a rare decent experience with them ordering a B. Emilia sling confirmed female - they shipped when i asked and she arrived in winter well heated. I saw the reviews after I ordered and the website said next day delivery if you order before 2pm. Nothing that day. Texted and...

Strange Deformation of Giant Asian Mantis

If its guts are bad there's nothing you can do, but I extended the life of my Giant Rainforest Mantis (Hierodula majuscula) by making cockroach 'soup' and feeding with a syringe. It kept her hydrated and alive for about a month longer than expected. The way I made the soup was by freezing a...

    P. regius egg sac photo story - they hatched!

^^ Mommy Dearest - P. regius female, dark form. She has blue fangs. ^^ Laying eggs on Easter Sunday (April 16th). Sorry for the grubby phone picture ^^ I took these three with a hobby-grade digital USB microscope and candled the back of the nest so the eggs would be visible. This is...

    H. arizonensis molting problems - I have an idea

I don't keep Scorpions (I am just nosy, haha) but I've thought about this kind of thing before. Could you set the enclosure in a tray and fill the tray with water, as you would with some plant pots?

    Jumping Spider Eggsac

Hi I'm in exactly your situation except mine hatched today or yesterday! It took about four weeks. If she's guarding it there's a chance it's fertile providing she's wild caught and hasn't moulted in your care. I increased the temperature very slightly about four days ago. Not sure if it...

    Anyone still handling Ts?

I saw that thread later and understood better, hahahaha. No worries here, I'm not often in the business of getting ruffled on the internet ;) definitely check out some jumpers!

    Anyone still handling Ts?

Jumpers are very intelligent, and make really good pets! They are not very long-lived, but I've had an adult female P. regius for 1 year now and she's still (so far) in good health. I'm new to the hobby, but you can see them assessing new situations and they definitely seem to learn. The same AF...

    Anyone still handling Ts?

I used to do it as a job, and I didn't agree with it. We didn't let the punters hold them, and I would sit on the floor to do it -- not my spiders, not my decision. I don't handle my own and I don't have that job any more. I credit it with fostering my interest in them, but since the spiders...

    Too fat???

@EulersK ! I have the same species with a similar mark at the moment, thread with pictures here. I wonder if this is a B. albopilosum thing? RE: Fat slings, I've never held off feeding because they were too fat. I will withhold food if I think they're close enough to a moult to both refuse and...

Anyone know what a heat mat burn looks like on a tarantula?

This is what I'm wondering! It resembles a burn to me, but since I don't know what a burnt actually tarantula *looks* like I'm aware I'm potentially just equating it with that because it's blackened. I've heard a great many cautionary tales about heat mats etc, but I've never seen the direct...
