GBB (Chromatopelma Cyaneopubescens) refusing food, what should I do?

My GBB has been on a hunger strike for the past two and a halfish weeks. I rehomed it a couple days ago, and it still drinks from the water dish every now and then, and it also built a big web/burrow complex, but it’s been refusing both roaches and mealworms even before the rehome. The abdomen...

    Loxosceles simillima care and breeding

Been thinking of picking some of these guys up. I checked some of the other threads on them and it seems like a deli cup with some paper towels is good for the slings, but I was wondering how much humidity is good for them, and if they’re good at room temperature (70-77 degrees, I keep my house...

How to keep gnats out of enclosures?

Sticky/fly paper really helped reduce my fungus gnat problems. Just hang it up/stick it to the outside of enclosures or on walls or shelves where you see them land a lot.

    Are these grain mites?

Thanks for the help guys! I went looking on google images, and the mites I have remind me of Stratiolaelaps sp. In terms of what they're eating without prey, I see them swarm over fish flakes and mold. I read that they eat springtails and fungus gnat larvae, so they could be hunting for those...

    Are these grain mites?

Sorry for necroing this thread, but I took some better pictures of the mites. One is of the weird, cream colored mite with the red head and longish mouthparts, the other is of a mite I accidentally discovered in cage while I was taking macro pictures of the mites, I've never seen one like it...

    Are these grain mites?

Hmm, they’re much faster than that. I’ll try and get a better picture later, but it might take me a bit because I don’t have a good enough camera. Their heads and mouthparts are a reddish cream color, whereas their abdomens are a lighter off white. They are maybe 1/3-1/2 the size of the big...

    Are these grain mites?

Ah, how unfortunate, I was hoping I had some other kind of mite. What kind of predatory mite will control grain mites? The Neoseiulus californicus seemed to have fizzled out—I see lots of the grain mites and none of the N. californicus. I've had them for a couple years now and all my animals...

    Are these grain mites?

Hi everybody, For a long while now I’ve had these strange, white mites in my enclosures. They don’t seem to pose much of a threat, and I’ve never seen them swarming on any of my roaches or forming a cyst/dormant state (I forgot the name) on them, so I’ve been assuming that they’re harmless. For...

    Roach Escape Proofing - Vaseline?

Some people say they re-apply it every few months, but I personally have never needed to re-apply it periodically. Only if it gets too thin or dries out, or gets full of fungus gnats or something do I reapply it.

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

The enclosure wasn't really that well ventilated. I didn't realize that about the fruit, from now on I'll remove fruit more promptly. I've moved all of them to a new, temporary enclosure. All the nymphs appear to be better now, slower progress with the adults. The whole temporary enclosure is...

    Roach Escape Proofing - Vaseline?

Vaseline works pretty well, I use it for all my climbing insects. Occasionally, however, I have had some small isopods climb on top of it, but I think roaches are too heavy for that to be a problem. Just smear it around the rim of the cage and reapply it if it gets too thin.

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

Update: I've moved out all the roaches from the main cage, except the 10 or so that died. All the once in the temporary enclosure are looking a lot better, more active, etc. The nymphs are doing much better than the adults, many of which I'm not sure will survive the night. A few adults are fine...

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

The heat mat covered about 3/4th of the cage, it might have been that. I didn't find any burrowed in the soil. I'll remember about the vomiting being a sign of stress in the future, thanks! As for the food, I didn't give them anything out of the ordinary apart from the fruit. The fruit I gave...

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

I took them off the heat and let the enclosure sit at room temperature last night when I discovered the initial die off, but the change in temperature didn't seem to affect them. It definitely does seem to be something in cage, though I'm not sure what it is. Many of the nymphs were showing some...

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

Update: Right now I'm trying to rescue any of the roaches from the main bin who still show some signs of life. The other ones I removed before came back to life, so hopefully I can save more of them.

    Bizarre Roach Die Off

Last night I opened up my Eublaberus sp. "Ivory" bin to discover that my colony appeared to suffering from a huge die off, possibly caused by pesticides in a piece of fruit I gave them. I promptly removed the fruit, as well as a bunch of the dead and dying roaches, figuring I would clean out the...

    Keeping Termites

Thanks for the help everyone! I'll place my termite trap hopefully later this week. I live in a city so the only place close by is the park, but I've seen lots of alates so I'm pretty sure there are termites there in the less tended to areas.

Setting up roach colonies. Want to make sure I have everything I need.

It probably won't hurt to have some isopods or springtails with the discoids in the soil. As for temperature, 75 degrees is probably fine but a heat mat or two wouldn't hurt.

Setting up roach colonies. Want to make sure I have everything I need.

Those two bins should work really well I think. I would recommend drilling or cutting some holes into the top for ventilation, and putting some screen mesh on if the holes are big. For substrate, I actually think it makes cleaning easier because it allows the cage to hold moisture for...

    Keeping Termites

Ah, if I end up catching nothing good I'll try ordering some workers off the internet. Hopefully cardboard and rubberbands are attractive to termites.
