I decided to look for either a hognose snake, corn snake, or leopard gecko. Beardie care seems rather intimidating (for now). I have time to research some more.
I’m making plans for when I go to another expo (hopefully this month) and I’m looking into getting my first reptile. I am interested in leopard and crested geckos, but I want to see other options are out there, I think I have room for two 40 gallon enclosures or one 75 gallon. Plus care...
Finally rehoused the new additions that I got at the expo on Sunday. The Avic was simple to rehouse, the P. cambridgei was a pain to say the least, and the O. ornatus millipedes were obviously no trouble at all. Finished all the enclosures a 2 hours ago after a long nap and a dead drill battery...
I love everything about the hobby, but one of the coolest parts of the hobby is watching the difference in behavior among individuals of the same species.
So far I’m keeping 25 millipedes/2 species. Making this thread in case I end up being the lucky one succeeding where others have failed with Orthoporus ornatus (picked up 5 yesterday from an expo). If for some odd reason I get lucky and figure out how to get them to reproduce, I will post it...
Went to the local expo (Muncie, IN) yesterday. Wasn’t a great haul as the expo had only a few inverts in general this time.
I ended up with:
P. cambridgei 0.1.0 (a thick one)
A. avic 0.1.0 (confirmed female by me)
Orthoporus ornatus millipedes x5 (getting heavily into millipedes)
Enclosure...
There’s an expo coming up soon and I was thinking of getting my first mantid(s). I’m just trying to figure out what my options are. My specialty is tarantulas so this is going to be something new.
This was a few day’s ago, I simply forgot to post it here.
I rehoused my three Heterothele slings. Two of them cooperated, the third not so much, yet still went smoothly. To make things easier I fed them ahead of time.
I want to raise every species at some point, but “for right now” I have zero interest in raising an H. maculata, S. calceatum, and T. seladonia (which is unbelievably overrated, this is one species that if I never keep one it’s no big deal).
3 H. villosella slings which were larger than you usually find on vendor lists. I don’t think I’ll ever do online buying ever again after experiencing my first expo today.
I also picked up some ivory millipedes and carnivorous plants.
I think this one was shortly after a molt. This picture was taken around 2 years ago.
unother expectation I had is that A. hentzi were going to be slow growing. While not exactly wrong, I found both of mine molted at a medium rate.
Many say Aphonopelma hentzi are dull and boring an appearance with a lack of appetite to match, so when I got my first one, that’s what I expected. I could not have been more wrong. Look at a P. muticus and you’ll see what dull brown looks like. Dull is something the A. hentzi is not, they are...
