    Fell apart

My C. crawshayii male matured in November 2009. Lately he's been staying in his burrow and not coming out - I can see him through a "window" against the glass. I've been dreading and waiting for the terrible smell of a dead T that I have read about. Anyway, yesterday, I decided to just put...

    Poecilotheria Bite

I work with spider venoms, although not this specific one. The venom binds irreversibly to receptors on nerve endings. Luckily for you, these receptors, like the other parts of the cell membranes, eventually are shed and replaced. The bound venom stays with the shed receptor, and you won't be...

MM B.boehmii has a new home

Thanks, and sorry to everyone who wanted him and didn't get him. He is off to his new home and hopefully fatherhood. I was truly amazed at how many responses I got. His spot on the shelf is very empty. But, its for the best, I hope.

    T. Gigas help! I don't know what this is!

It looks like some sort of somatic parasite, sadly. Maybe, I hope, not. Keep us posted, even if the worst happens, so we can all learn something. Beautiful T!

    B. dubia food

I go to the local feed mill - non medicated poultry grower feed is 0.25$/ lb, and 4 lbs lasts for months (yes, that is a dollar's worth). I have thousands of dubias - actually I cut back on their food to try to slow the reproduction rate down, as I only have 3 T's and I guess 30,000 dubias.

    king baboon sling

MM C.crawshayii I have an MM. Molted into MM about Thanksgiving, or just after. I got him as a 2.5 incher 2 years ago. I don't know exactly how big he is right now, but he's very leggy. And very lonely. Anyone who is within driving distance that wants him, he's available. (I don't pack).

    King Baboon problem!

My question is, if you get a better look by refrigerating and catching her, will it change anything you are going to do? If the results of the examination will not affect how you are going to manage her, then I would not stress her further. Just me.....

Do brachys just not eat much, or what?

I have a penultimate male B. boehmii - he's pretty much as you describe. Right now he eats a roach about every 2-3 weeks.

    what is cup-to-tank method?

Thanks, the photos were quite helpful - I have been putting off rehousing a very large female LP for fear of how to contain her for the move. Maybe I'll be brave enough, this weekend.

How to tell if C.crawshayii male is mm?

I checked on him last night - definitely got the boxing gloves. I may be way off on the estimated measurement - all my life I've listened to guys telling me how big things are, lol. Anyway, I posted him on the announcements forum to see if anyone wants him.

MM C. crawshayii, looking for love

Yup, he came out of hiding about a week ago and has been roaming all night, a very new behavior. Thanks to the good advice of Danny, I gathered my courage and got a close up view. Boxing gloves, for sure. Anyone interested, let me know. If he doesn't find a mate, at least I actually get to...

How to tell if C.crawshayii male is mm?

Yeah, I am kinda thinking this being out and about every night may be the hunt for a mate. In previous times, he showed his face at the burrow entrance for a day or two, fed once, and by day three was sealed in below again. The last few nights, are the first time I've seen the whole T since I...

How to tell if C.crawshayii male is mm?

I've had this fella about 2 years. His normal pattern has been to emerge and eat 4-5 times per year, then seal up and not be seen for months in between meals. 3 weeks ago, he started being seen regularly at night. He has been out and about much longer than normal. I say "he" because I've...

    kind of dumb dubia questions

Be careful what you wish for! I had to depopulate my dubias, the original 35 turned into thousands. Now I only feed and give water once a week. And how I found out they deliver live, is that an L.p. grabbed a gravid female, and the young jumped ship as mom was having venom pumped into her...

    Got HISSED at!

Oh my. I was peering at the side of the terrarium where the C. crawshayii lives. I can see webbing in the portion of the den at the bottom of the tank that abuts the wall. I can see the outline of the beast. Its been there for weeks. I opened the lid to pour some water in the water dish...
