I was replying off of my phone and mistook the picture for a dorsal view. In any case after looking at the picture further it does appear to be an area that has lost hair due to rubbing on the substrate or something. However, if I had a spot on my head that looked like that one coils still say...
I don't know what kind of budget you have, but my M balfori webs like an obt, is less defensive (so far at 3") and is striking now that it has it's adult colors. If you are on a budget, P murinus ( obt) or P lugardi are good choices to me. All of the above are hardy in my own experience. Good luck!
My gbb's are generally pretty active. They do tend to like it on the drier side but I have never lost one to too much humidity. That is, as long as it's not sopping wet. Best bet is to wet half of the substrate and let it dry out, they are very hardy. How big is it anyways?

I guess I am not familiar with your colloquialism in this instance. The talk of selective human breeding made me think of what I posted. A little extreme to go from T vs. Hamster to discussions of selectively breeding the human race, don't ya think? Maybe the "large net" was cast before I posted.
The heat packs used for T shipping are not re-usable. They activate when exposed to air, run their course and are finished. Once the chemical reaction stops (when the catalyst is used up) the pack cools and ususally hardens.
