    blondi hungry but not feeding!

my blondi, Gabriela, is a mature female (I don't know how old as she was adult when i got her). I was told to keep her too wet when i was researching how to keep her so i have had recurrent problems with mold. I think (fingers crossed) I am on top of the mold now, however, she isn't eating...

    Do tarantulas benefit from walking?

the only time my blondi has ever been in any way 'active' (i.e more than grooming or the weeny bit of webbing that blondis actually do) is when she's been really REALLY hungry after a moult. Otherwise she takes a trip to her water bowl, back into her cave. A full life if ever there was one.

    Mould on blondi & substrate

will definitely buy some springtails, i just hope they don't irritate her. She is a blondi, they get irritated quite easily lol. I really hate how some people describe blondis as being 'aggessive'. Mine isn't. She's very very 'defensive'. But there is a world of difference between the 2...

    Mould on blondi & substrate

coir is another term for coconut fibre. I know everyone says they leave bug parts but i have NEVER seen any bug parts left by her. Except this morning, she didn't eat the locust i gave her yesterday (She killed it then dropped it after about 12 hours) so I took it out today. I just don't...

    Mould on blondi & substrate

I have changed the substrate again (using microwaved coir-i think i burnt some of it i made it so hot lol) + methyl paraben. I fed her today, she's grabbed the locust and killed it but it's been about 6 hours and she hasn't eaten it (normally there is no trace of it within 20 mins or so). It's...

    Mould on blondi & substrate

I got my blondi a year and a half ago, she is fully grown. At first i had no problems, she was brilliant. I was told to keep her at80-90% humidity, which is where the problems started. I keep her on coir, I noticed some white stuff growing on the coir, thought it might be mould, took it out...

how humid should a blondi be?

thanx for your help, i always thought the temps quoted for blondis seemed a bit low (I have a bit of a thing about latin america in general so i know a fair bit about it, including climate etc) so i'll try to get her temp up a bit, heat mats are rubbish. Regarding the humidity, i think i'm...

how humid should a blondi be?

i've had my blondi for a year now, i month or so ago i had a problem with mould which seems to have solved itself with a substrate change etc. teh problem is that now her humidity is at 85%, it was at 90 when she got the mould so i'd ideally like it to be at 70ish (if that's suitable for her...

What other kind of animals do you have?

1 Theraphosa blondi (Gabriela) 1 cat (Rum aka Wimbly-woo. She's my baby but has lung cancer and is on her last legs) 4 budgies (Layne, Somnium, Jimi and Dee Dee-all named after dead rock stars lol) 3 corn snakes (Holly, Maggie and Thumper-all boys poor things) 1 grey-banded kingsnake, a...

As a Peaceful Human Living On This Earth, I Will Never Understand People Who Abuse Their Pets

apparantly there's a video on there of a fish being deep fried alive. I still have nightmares about hearing about it, i havent even seen it. It's absolutely sickening, it's one of the unfortunate sides of the internet, i get the feeling that a lot of the abuse is for show, if there wasnt a...

mould on t (she's still alive)

A week or so ago i posted a thread on here about my blondi who has mould growing on her. I dismantled the tank, washed everything and replaced the substrate. Humidity is now 60% but she has access to a water dish. I saw her washing yesterday and she also 'had a walk' around her tank (she...

    Parched Rose Hair!?

All animals need to have access to fresh water (or moisture in their food for animals that dont necessarily drink-eg some invertebrates) at all times. Be they a stick insect or a dog, a horse or a spider. The only possible exception is if you live in an extremely humid climate and are keeping...

    Tarantula species and food preference

cockroaches are likely to be more common than crickets in wet tropical areas, crickets (as opposed to katydids) are likely to be more common in drier areas. I think. It's just a theory, but i think it makes sense

    mould on t

I have washed the tank, replaced the coir and washed all of her (plastic) cage furniture. It hasnt been re-set up long enough for the humidity to be accurate yet, it's 85% in the cool end (the end with her water bowl) and 80%at the warm end. I have also drilled more holes in the tank for...
