Hello all!
I'm super excited because I have an Egyptian predator beetle arriving next week. They can be kept communally, but I'm getting just one because I've heard the males can fight. It's going in a 20(cm) x 20 x 15 enclosure filled a little way with excavator clay and with cork bark hide...
...psytalla are pure carnivores that are ground dwelling likely specializing on beetles so they are unlikely to hurt pollinators.
Ditto for the large predatory beetles like Pasimachus, Manticora, Mouhotia, and Anthia.
Even more so for water dwelling inverts like Lethocerus, Dysticus, and Cybister.
It is very very rare for these beetles to kill eachother. Theres youtube videos of people keeping 5 in one encloser. Sucks they are so hard to breed. They use ants to take care of their larvae.
Hi, I've bought 2 anthia sexmaculata beetles and after putting them in one terrarium one suddenly lunged at others neck, I know they fight when there is food inside but they can kill each other? If its possible and just matter of time I'll just make 2 enclosures. What are your experiences with...
Hi, I’ll keep this short , so basically my anthia omoplatta predatory beetles have managed to breed successfully, i now have around 7 larvae running around and I’m not sure what to feed them and I don’t know any of the other basics because there’s no info out there , I know ants could be a very...
Several Anthia species have been seen in the US if I'm not mistaken, just not within the past year as far as I remember. There is a rumor someone in the UK got larvae out of a female but they died soon after (no surprise given the larvae's life style).
Thanks,
Arthroverts
Anthia sexguttata is a species of beetle that I’ve always been fascinated by and wanted to keep. Have these ever made it into the US hobby? I know they come from Asia but I’ve definitely seen them pop up in the UK trade. Does anyone know of any record of captive breeding? I thought for sure I...
Yeah that's just a bad common name some people use apparently, after looking around seems a lot of people call them tiger beetles for some reason, they most certainly are not.
Hi, thanks for your answer.:) In the pet shop, where I bought him, the beetle was named as " "Tiger ground beetle" alias Anthia Sexmaculata". In the meanwhile I found out, that it isn't a tigerbeetle. I had no clue in the beginning, because I'm a totally beginner.:)
Thank you all for your...
I’d definitely recommend keeping them in a more quiet room as such vibrations will stress them out. I wish you took this into consideration before purchasing the animal...
If not you may be able to prevent the vibrations reaching the enclosure through soundproofing etc. but try to find a quiet...
As far as I know, most insects are more sensitive to vibrations they can detect with their feet. I think music with a subwoofer would be more likely to stress them. They also might just adapt regardless if it is fairly constant. Sudden loud noises, though, will probably continue to scare them if...
Hello,
I've bought a Anthia Sexmaculata-Beetle yesterday. Is it harmful for them when the terrarium stands in a room, where is loud music for 4-5 hours a day?
And how do they get along with loud noices generally?
Would be glad for answers
Thanks and greetings
Hello,
I have some Anthia sexmaculata at the moment and I had Anthia cinctipennis in the past.
For the enclosure it's best to give them as big as you can because they really do use all of it. It's great to see them running around chasing prey.
I keep mine on sand mixed whit a little bit of...
Anthia have been kept with some success before if you want a larger species, and at least in the states I know of a few people that have kept native Cicindela and Amblycheila. I don't know anything about Australian species, but here's some of the basics I know.
If you want something diurnal...
