Three is a centipede with real personality, always ready to try new foods like small slivers of salmon, banana, or, as pictured, kiwi. Three did not eat the whole piece of fruit; only a little is needed as a supplement.
I've seen people bash on other people for feeding centipedes fruit especially Brad. There is an old post from a guy that went on an expedition to trinidad to catch Scolopendra sp. Trinidad Black Giant Centipedes. One of the specimens that he collected was hanging from the wall of a cave holding a piece of fruit and eating it. I have tried feeding my S. heros slices of prickly pear fruit but I have never seen them eat it. I need to do a little more controlled experimentation than just putting a little slice in before I go to bed and then removing it the next day. It is pretty likely that they would eat it in the wild. It would make raising plings so much easier.
Fruit is just supplemental and I don't let them eat too much. I doubt if it is harmful if the centipedes willingly eat it. If something is poisonous or undesirable they simply ignore it. For example, the hainanum detests figs.
