P. striata

The same girl I posted yesterday.
Pretty sure mine's gravid, she hasn't moved in weeks and refuses food, and she's webbing....appreciate that male you sent me for sure;)

Yours looks nice and thick, too.

@cold blood Yeah, she's plump. She's gotten quite lethargic these last few days, hence me being able to get this picture. But she's still eating, no doubt about that. She's gotten about one meal per week since I paired her in August. No webbing though, just a lot of basking like you see here. Almost no time is spent hiding these days. @Blue Jaye suggested that I rehouse her and bump the humidity to try and trigger a sac.

How is that male, by the way? Has he passed?

Passed, naw, he's in tip top shape, I don't see him expiring for quite a while.

I've heard of the re-housing as a trigger, but never tried it aside from once, and it didn't work. I do like to flood their enclosures though.

@cold blood I somewhat need to rehouse to really give her a downpour. Hard to explain, but her enclosure leaks. It's an easy fix, but I need her out of there to fix it. On top of that, I really don't see where she'd be able to lay a hammock for a sac - it's not a small enclosure, but the shape of her cork tube doesn't leave much flat floor space.

@cold blood Firstly, thanks for the cheap giggle. Secondly, don't they have to make a hammock and then roll it up into the sac? I actually thought all tarantulas produced sacs the same way...

My god. I haven't had a newbie moment in awhile. Teach me!

@EulersK

They dig out a little depression and lay silk over it, then lay the eggs on it, then wrap it into a nice ball.

Are you saying there's no floor space or access to the substrate?

@cold blood Huh, interesting. Makes sense though. And no, there really isn't. She's been perfectly content in the enclosure, never saw a reason to rehouse her. The only places I can think of would be in the cork tube at the bottom or in the far corner (last picture):

I don't think she'd have an issue making a sac in there.

I do think its less likely she will lay a sac if its dry though, so if you can't add enough water, then maybe a re-house is in order. Where's the leak?
