@DreaPoecilotheria males have a characteristic referred to as the "pokie dot" which females lack. It's usually a small circular patch of light coloured setae around the area of the epigastric furrow. Compare with this photo of my male P. metallica: https://i.imgur.com/z8DRl18.jpg
A caveat being that immediately post-moult this mark can be harder to see, giving hope that you were wrong with previous assessments, only to have that hope slowly fade as the spider becomes vibrant again.
