What you need to look at is perfectly intact, you just need to spread it a bit and take a better picture. I hope you haven't thrown it away yet.

I agree, trim off the tangled part at the lower set of book lungs. Open up the rest and you should be able to see what you need to.

@EulersK I already tried untangling it. Everything around the upper book lungs was shredded too. Holes everywhere :( just not a great photo this time because there was no need for a better one. It won't hurt to give it another try though.
