How large is it? Did you raise it from a sling? If not, was there a common name when you bought it or when it was given to you? It looks like Avic Avic to me but the color is kind of off and the general heaviness of the body and legs doesn't remind me of Avic Avic. It could be a "local' Aviculaira, such as Avic sp. "Peru Purple" which also has sub-morphotypes as well
@JavaJacketOC Yah, I got her two weeks ago at the same size, but she's a lot more happy than she was at Petsmart! I saved her. (They'll just replace her but....) Anyway, she is 3.5" to 4" and is a female (Petsmart manager said she was laying eggs). But what does Petsmart know? LOL Manager was actually quite knowledgable and her Petsmart is clean with healthy pets. Also, she said that this Tarantula was A.avic, but I'm guessing that they don't really know. You might be right about her being an Avid sp, though. I will keep trying to find out. Hybrid maybe?
@CrazyPinkToe2day So, it's possible it's one of the locale specific Avic Avic's but this is where it gets fun....I believe Peru was recently important and Guyana before that. It's possible it's an Avic Juruensis (prev known as Avic Uritcans of which Avic sp. "Peru Purple" was rolled into at one point) however, you'll probably need to get several pictures for the Avic experts and you'll probably need to see it freshly molted to get a more definitive confirmation. My $0.02 is that it's what is now categorized as A.Juruensis, I'm a bit of an Avic whore but not an expert in ID by any means. She's pretty!
