Dragonfly

Cool looking dragonfly I found while out hiking. I thought it was a Blue Dashed but not really sure so if anyone can identify it for me that would be great.
Many damselflies look almost exactly the same. Some species are particularly difficult to identify by just appearance and have to be identified by their genitalia.

After a bit more investigation on the internet. I now think this is a Blue-Eyed Darner instead of a Blue Dashed.

Dragonflies are in the suborder Anisoptera and have their wings held perpendicular to their body while Damselflies, suborder Zygoptera, usually hold their wings towards the back of their body like the one you have pictured. Darner dragonflies have long cerci that give their abdomen the general shape of a darning needle--their namesake.

This one is probably in the family Coenagrionidae, the narrow-winged damselflies.

@Ranitomeya I was thinking the wings looked different from most dragonflies I see but was not sure.....thank you for the information. I love learning new things :)
