@Arthroverts a bit of both. We discovered this one on our fig tree a few weeks ago, and Ive been clearing away any predators on the bush since then. It's grows like 3mm a day it's rediculous
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't think that might be a Euploea core caterpillar? Either way, very cute!
 
@vessz maybe it is! All I know is that monarch butterflies seem to love this little fig bush we have and these are the only caterpillars on it so I just assumed with the similar colouration they'd have to be monarchs. There's a few different colour forms around here, up north there's black and white and occasionally there's like black white and purple-grey. I've seen monarchs laying eggs on fig trees around here 2, but maybe they could be lookalikes. I'm always open for correction when it comes to non-spider invertebrates
