That tiny thing in the white cap was this beasts first molt in my care. I've had her for just over a year. For those of you who buy large LP slings/juvies because you don't want to wait for a big spider, this is why I suggest you save your money and just buy a sling
@Liquifin She's about 3.5 inches DLS right now. Certainly not big compared to their adult size, but still good sized especially with her bulk. She was about 3/4 inch when I got her, so in a year she's grown almost 5x her original size. Yet I've seen people spend money that I'd consider absurd just because they want a big spider right away. On a very reliable site right now, they're selling a 2 1/2 - 3 inch confirmed female for $115. Mine's larger than that already and I only paid $8. I just don't like seeing people waste their money.
I’ve got a mature male LP that I got from a herp show. The draw for me buying a bigger T is that I know the sex. I was heartbroken when I found out mine was a male because he was my first one and was really wanting a female that I could have for a long time. It’s been about 8 months since he matured and I keep expecting to wake up to find him dead since I learned they don’t usually last a super long time after maturing.
@ExArachnophobe That's a fair point. I think if you're looking specifically for a large/adult female or mature male, it's more justifiable. But to me, it's still not worthwhile to buy a 2 - 3 inch LP just because you know the sex. You could get a small sling of this species for consistently well under $10. After a few months, it'll be large enough to sex. If it's not the sex you want, sell it (you'll make your money back) and start over. That's how I see it anyway
