My newest acquisitions

Cotinis nitida, green june beetles. A friend of my boyfriend gets them in his backyard annually, so when he posted a picture of these two getting it on earlier today, I offered him a couple bucks to go grab them for me
@ErinM31 They really do! My boyfriend sent me the video his friend posted of them, and my response was an immediate "Where are they? Did he keep them? And if not, can we go find them??" He didn't keep them initially, but he actually went back out to find them for me! I was thrilled! :D

@MossMan Me to. The guy literally only lives a few minutes from me, but I've never seen these beetles before. They eat fruit as adults though, and the guy said he has a lot of berry bushes around, so I'm assuming that's why he has so many and I have none. I think my family might just wake up one day to a ton of fruit trees and bushes all over the yard

Ive only seen the green coloration in my area, never the red. Have you seen other colors? Are they the same species?

@spotropaicsav These are literally the only two I've seen in person, so I've personally never seen any other colors, but I was able to find a few images online of them ranging from solid green to a solid reddish bronze, and any combination of the two colors. I believe they are the same species as anatomically they appear identical, they were found in the same location, and they were found mating. The red one is the presumed female so I was thinking there might be some sexual dimorphism at play. But it could just be simple color variations of each individual beetle

@spotropaicsav I just went and got a good look at them, and the red one does have some definite green undertones in the proper lighting, so I'm confident they're the same species. You can see a bit of the green on the legs, head, and the lower end of the elytra. I'll try to get a picture of her later to show some of the green better
