H crassipes or H gigas

Got this on a trade for a mm almost a year ago and don't remember what it is.
Nice! What size is this? Is yours defensive or docile?

I have a H. gigas sling. It is staying burrowed so I haven't got to see it since getting it as a freebie. It is my first OW.

It's about 3.5 in. That box is 4x4. I never really handle any of my T's but I've never got a threat pose from this one. It just goes the other way

@obie I don't handle my T's either. That sounds positive on the demeanor. I didn't plan for my first OW but it happened. I am actually happy with the genus/species though. I hope you can identify yours for the sake of knowing.

It looks like there is lots of confusion on identifying Hysterocrates so it may be possible that you were even told wrong when you got it (likewise on mine).

Here is information that I just found at a website (but it is old). Perhaps someone else with knowledge can validate or correct where I am wrong.

Hysterocrates gigas
This was the next species imported from mainland Africa, Cameroon. Males and young mature females have a thickened tibia on leg IV. Ironically this species is probably not the real gigas, but is "pet trade gigas". However really large females loose the thickened tibia IV (and were often sold as H. hercules). Now you understand why your "real hercules" spiderlings have got thickened tibia IV!!

Hysterocrates crassipes
Also imported from Cameroon/Nigeria. Seems to have an entirely thick leg IV.

Taken from 2005 forum post for whatever it is worth (http://www.the-t-store.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=3781)

@Jeff23 It is a mess.

H. gigas was the 2nd T I ever owned and it had thick rear legs like the one in photo. I got it in a time where almost all the gigas for sale in UK were true gigas as the genus wasnt as muddy as it is now.

I must say though, your specimens rear legs are thicccck for smaller. I thought the stipes on the patella are more noticable in crassipes thats why I leaning gigas.

Hey good information guys. I was hoping it was a gigas. But I think it might be a male.

What ever you do, dont ever breed it...!!

Every answer you get here is 100% speculation and no confirmation!
