@Abyss i believe the green ones are the more European stock. US stock has been inbred in the past or something. theres a thread on it i read through a while back.
Although this was sold as urticans and matches European stock over the years, it's not the exact coloring of the first urticans specimens introduced. Instead, I believe these closely related species have been mixed since introduction to the hobby.
It is well known to Avicularia enthusiasts that Avicularia sp. Peru Purple adopted the label 'urticans', although they don't fit the "urticans complex" (aurantiaca, urticans, ulrichea, walckenaeri, & sp. Pucallpa) which have unique shaggy setae that sp. Peru Purple doesn't portray. The species within this complex are divided only by coloring and leg banding. They're highly presumed different localities of one species.
A. sp. Peru Purple have setae like huriana, bicegoi and sp. Amazonica etc...
Rick West has a picture of a presumable sp. Peru Purple labeled "Avicularia urticans" on his site but he has mislabeled before. The original "green" urticans and sp. Peru Purple share a habitat, both found in Iquitos, Peru. This could be the answer why Rick labeled them as he did.
Schimdt described urticans as having unique setae that fits the "urticans complex".
Caroline Fukushima has commented about the amateur-ness of all these species described in the 1990's, which to me means, they are a synonym of the original species described, which could very well be the only species from the complex not described in the 1990's, walckenaeri (Perty 1833).
