Tarantula Pellets

Anyone else collected these when first starting the hobby?!
@louise f Yeah, bolus it is! I started collecting these to keep track of my Versi's appetite, but then accidentally lost half of them so I stopped collecting.

The scientist part of my mind does find them pretty interesting, but it never occurred to me to keep them. Might make for an interesting observation/dissection for a class project. The goal: find out what remains after a spider eats it's meal. Materials: one bolus, one dead but intact insect of the same kind the spider ate, an exacto knife (maybe), and a pair of tweezers.

Mine usually end up smelling a little funky--especially if they were fed crickets. Dead crickets stink in any form.

I totally dig this! I sometimes roll them around between my thumb and forefinger looking for recognizable parts.
