Sorry this isn't a great picture, but this tarantula was witnessed in Austin Texas. We think it is living in this drain. It is seen nearly every morning, once sited crawls back in the drain, which is why we think it lives there.any idea what kind this is?
@Burchling what I was saying at the end there, is there are a lot of people here saying it's A. hentzi and there is no way for them to have a 100% positive on that identification because of the picture itself. So telling the OP not to go telling other people they know in RL that know about that T that it's A. hentzi as if it were fact.

@lunarae Please take it with a pinch of salt. There is no way to ID a genus like Aphonopelma from a photo taken around 5 metres away ;)

@KezyGLA I know there is no way to ID it.........that's what I was saying. That's what I was trying to make sure the OP knew as well. I don't know who they are or what their experience level is. Hence why I said it so they knew to take it with their own grain of salt. The picture IS awesome, just ID is impossible.

Given that it is located in Austin, it would be A. hentzi or A. armada. These things pop up in the strangest places. A couple of years ago I stumbled on one living in a hole underneath a concrete retaining wall in a cemetary right outside of downtown Dallas in the late afternoon. Don't expect it to be there for too much longer though. It will most likely wander off eventually to find a more suitable place to live.

Not a chalcodes. Too far east, and way too wet in Austin. Aphonopelma moderatum (Rio Grande Gold)? They're often not very gold. If I were betting money, I'd say the out-in-front favorite is a hentzi. Better light on the carapace and a shot of the abdomen might reveal a moderatum, though.

And, YES - CUTEST PICTURE EVER!

HMMMM...maybe an armada. They DO look like mature male chalcodes at a glance.
