Can't tell for sure what species this is from the picture. Was this collected from somewhere in Texas or somewhere else? If so where? Location will help narrow down the possibilities.
@AphonopelmaTX Unfortunately I have no clue where its from, as it was CB. I was given it by a breeder in MA. He said it is an A.Anax. Also, it looks female, not sure it that helps
@EmilzHernandez With no collection information, than the only way to tell for sure if it is Aphonopelma anax is by examination of the spermatheca if it really is a female. The shape of the spermatheca in A. anax is unique in these brown and tan American tarantulas that it can be used to determine the species. Next time it molts, hang onto it! As for now though, the species can't be confirmed. Judging by the picture it could be Aphonopelma anax or Aphonopelma hentzi. Both are tan and are located in Texas so the common name is correct either way!
@EmilzHernandez Excellent! Since I can't attach pictures here, I will send you a PM with an image of an A. anax spermatheca to compare with the molt you have.
The hentzi complex is actually pretty easily identified at a glance when you know certain features unique to them.
Armada- longer legs, thinner build. Short velvety integument (hairs)
Hentzi- lanky, but massive build, very long wispy grizzled setae on the femurs- wide octagonal carapace, long scruffy integument.
Anax- Huge build like hentzi, carapace less octagonal-bulky. Shorter hair on femurs than hentzi, not wispy
