A. chalcodes, July 2015

A picture of my tarantula from when I first got her. I need to do some more photos at some point soon, she's a very pretty spider.
Gorgeous tarantula! I believe this is the Mexican Blonde variety of Aphonopelma chalcodes? All of them are beautiful!

@ErinM31 I'm actually not aware of the differences between varieties, although I presume there must be some since I know that A. chalcodes seem to vary in what they look like.

@aurusantula Nevermind, I am utterly confused as to what different localities are recognized and what they are; I could have sworn there was a thread with photos but despite numerous search attempts, I have failed to find it.

In any case, she is a beautiful tarantula and I agree that you should take more photos! :D:snaphappy:

@ErinM31 Ah, okay! If it comes up again I'll probably find it or something. I do know that many of the Aphonopelma species all look fairly similar to each other (I was trying to do some research on A. iodius and kept being like "looks just like my tarantula... hmmmm), so eh.

Will do! She is a very pretty spider and I adore her so much.

@aurusantula, have you looked at the 2016 paper revising the genus? If you want to know the precise differences between A. chalcodes and A. iodius, that paper lists the measurements/ratios/etc. that are important.
It's a bit bewildering how different species can look more alike than individuals of the same gender and species but a different local/variety/whatever!
