The hide seems wet though which indicates it had absorbed water most likely from the soil.

I feel like sherlock!

Yeah, the t needs dry sub. It also needs a water dish with no sponge in it and no extra heating (room temp is fine). It can'y be 9 months old, I'd guess-estimate at least 10 years old.
