I picked up this tiny tarantula at a nearby pet store today. It was labelled as a Curlyhair (Brachypelma albopilosum), but the clerks were lost on ID so I'd like to verify if possible. I also have a few other photos, but this is the best showing it's hair.
@Toxoderidae Thanks, out of the several photos I took that was the only one that appeared like that. So I'll have to get some shots of it in some natural sunlight to ensure what coloring it does have.
I'd be shocked if it were B. albopilosum, assuming these are true colors and not a trick of the camera. I also doubt that it's a B. vagans - their red coloration doesn't come in until much later.
And we have now come to the point where I say that identifying slings this young is nearly impossible An L. difficilus and a G. pulchripes look almost identical at this age, and whatever you have is no different.
Wait a few molts. If it is indeed an albo, you'll find out very quickly.
@EulersK Alright thanks, I was hoping it was a easy one to ID. I will indeed wait a few molts and re-post then. Interesting to see it can be one of the large 8" bird eaters. No matter what she does turn out to be I'm keeping her. That is long as she isn't a OBT orange bitey thing hahaha.
@CosbyArt Haha! OBT's are cute <3 As slings, even from like 1/4th an inch, they're dark greyish with an orange abdomen, so thankfully I don't think you accidentally bought one of those, lol, since as slings they're pretty identifiable
