babboon horns?

i was just wondering what the "horns" on some baboons(Ceratogyrus bechuanicus,etc) are made of and what if any purpose they serve

This is called a protuberance, found in some species of the genus Ceratogyrus, and it is not really know what they are used for. One day I dissected a specimen and if I remember corectly it was empty in the middle of it.

Some believe it developed as an inverted fovea, but what purpose it actual serves no one knows as mentioned above.
