I know Ive asked this before. But as this baby gets older I just dont know!! I got it as a C. marshalli. Ive come to the conclusion its NOT that. But it doesnt look ANYTHING like my other P. murinus! Its VERY docile VERY VERY docile!! The femers on the first two legs are BLACK on the inner side. Very black. The picture doesnt show it very good of course but trust me. My female murinus doesnt have that black, and she sports the "evil temperment". This little one is also not as orange. Its gotta be some kind of Baboon....

Any ideas? Is it still a P. murinus? The Tan phase?

Thanks for humoring me..
Michelle

Careful there Hag, you are leaving yourself wide open for me to comment muhahahaha {D

It is definetly a Pterinochilus sp. It doesn't look like murinus but it kinda looks like P meridionalis but I wouldn't swear to it. Anyway looks like it has been eating plenty of SOWBUGS and looks to be healthy.

Michelle, on the abdomen pattern alone, I wouldn't say it was a P. murinus, although the coloration on the front legs looks like it, especially in your first pic. But Pterinochilus sp. by all means. And out of respect and fear, I will graciously refrain from any sowbug remark! :D

I'm wondering if maybe someone crossed the tan color phase and the red/orange color phase P. murinus. You're photos do show a bit of orange and, IIRC, doesn't the TCF have darker femurs? Just a guess. It's been so long since I last saw a TCF that I don't remember for sure. Whatever the T is it will be interesting to see how it turns out when it gets bigger.

Well, after taking another look at this guy at our meeting, I came across an article in Arachnoculture
that was very helpful.
  • Systematics, Identification, Ecology, and Geographic Distribution of Augacephalus junodi (Simon, 1904) [Araneae, Theraphosidae, Harpactirinae] -Lucian K. Ross
From what I can see, this is almost certainly from the Augacephalus genus, perhaps junodi.

The whole article was very complete and informative. Everything I read suggests Augacephalus. (my inexperience leaves plenty of room for error, of course) Just to name a few points that can be seen in the pictures:

  • Pterinochilus is ruled out due to the lack of long emergent setae on the chelicerea. (compare these pics with Pterniochilus, it's pretty obvious)

  • A. junodi does have the ventral opisthosoma band.

  • The contrasting light & dark (comparing ventral to dorsal) colors on legs I and II is a trait of A. junodi.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only Anne Rice fan on the boards, I've read all her work, even the stuff she did under pin names!!

That a really good looking T although I have no idea what it is, I'm new to keeping T's so I do good to remember which ones I have when people use the sci names for them lol.
